Christmas is always a good time for reflection as we look forward to the new season.. so:-
- what was 2006 high point for you?

- where will wet a line for the first time next year?
Just curious...

My second season of salmon fishing ended as fishless as my first. So the high has to be watching a big dog otter swim up the pool I was fishing on the lower Wye at 5.30 a.m. one July morning.
2007? Well, largely on your recommendation, I am fishing Grantown with a couple of mates by way of a slightly belated 40th birthday celebration for 4 days at the begining of May. So I hope to combine the answer to the last 2 questons in1: my first salmon on the Spey in May.

My high point was my first "English" salmon. Thanks to Exerod who took me out on the Dorest Frome for a cracking days fishing. Thanks Andy. I did add a few Scottish ones later on in September, but that one was special! A low point has to be my continued blank in Devon. I don't think it's just me.
What would I like to see in 2007? That's easy, more fish (and water) in the rivers I fish, maybe the Irish Drift Nets will help, who knows.
The first fishing I did in 2006 was on the Exe in March, next year I will make an effort to hit North Devon, the Taw being a better bet in spring, I reckon. Otherwise I already have 2 trips to Scotland planned, but not until April and then July. Will the grilse arrive on time? I suspect not.

The high points, the Frome being on form when Rob visited My best spring ever by some margin, 10 springers Getting my first fish on floating line and small fly, and getting one on a nymph. The low being no rain between May and the middle of October again What do I want to see in 2007? Rain every other night from June til October and a good run of grilse getting right up the Exe in the summer, it's not too much to ask is it? I shall make a start somewhere in North Devon. Andy

Highlight of 2006 - April on the N Esk, high water, and hooking into 8 spring salmon...all between 6-9lb and great fun I'd like to see some more sea-trout in 2007 - have only had a handful over the last few years. First cast will be somewhere on the Dee - beat will be finance dependent

High points 2006 - Beautiful bright sea liced springers on Tyne and Spey on fly. Irish nets off.
For 2007 - Fatter grilse and seatrout. More ventures north of the border. Better river levels.
First wetting will be on the Tyne opening day 1st February.
Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all, but most important tight lines!!

The high point for 2006 was catching a 16lb sea trout on a Bloke 9ft 8wt Bonefish rod with floating line.
For 2007 I would love to break my record for the River Wear. (I know these fish still come up.......there was a monster lost in August)
I will be out again late April-early May.
Best wishes to you all!

High point for me in 2006 was my week in May on the Spey at Grantown and hooking and losing a powerful fish in the Grilse pool.
For 2007 I would like to see a Wear Sea Trout in my landing net. After several days fishing and many takes my score for the Wear remains at one skinny Grilse.
I will be wetting a line in the Tyne for the first time in 2007 having joined Tyneside Anglers.
All the best and tight lines in 2007.

Some interesting answers so far, here are mine:
Fishing the Dee in May and catching some magnificent springers. Catching a 20lb salmon on the Tay. Hooking 7 large sea trout in an hrs fishing at dusk - best 7lbs. Plenty more high points - too many to mention!
I'd like to see more people fly fishing on the Tyne in 2007. I'd like my optimism for the new season to become a reality.
Hopefully fishing the Spey in the spring at Carron.

Fishing the Inchnadamph hill lochs for a week in late May - awful weather but just being there is a privilege. .ad a few days on Spey in Aril too, and rounded the year off by fishing lots of days down on the Tweed
Looking forward to first year of Tyneside Anglers membership - fishing on the Whiteadder and Till in particular.
Best wishes for 2007.

The highlights for my 2006 season have to be:-
Watching my 3 year old son catch his first ever trout followed up by 5 more, first was on worm but the rest were on fly - ok I did the casting and hooking but he did all the rest himself. Catching a 10lb 12oz Sea Trout which won me fish of the month in T&S Catching 2 springers in 2 days off the Dee in March. It was also great to introduce a work mate to fly fishing and net a 13lb golden trout for him on his first ever outing.
The Lows:- Not a single salmon off my local river and only 1 half hearted pull in over 100Hrs fishing. No rain in the summer. Major pollution incident and fish kill
Looking forward to 2007.
