My mate is 40 next year and we fancy a week long trip abroad:-
- fishing whenever we want to - drinking when we are thirsty and when we are not - eating when we are hungry - smoking cigars whenever - camping - but most of all 14 hours fishing each day for game fish, salmon or char or trout or lenok or taimen etc - no women, no mobile phones, no posh food just fishing and fishing and fishing
Where in the world would you go with a combined budget of £4000 between the two of us..?
(15lb salmon, 4lb trout, 3lb grayling and 5lb char wouldnt go amiss - in fact any one of those half that size would be brilliant too!)

Put it this way, for 2 grand you wont be smoking cuban. Stay in Scotland, save on the airfare. Plenty of good fishing for that sort of money. Rob PS On my 40th I had one day on the Tamar

I'd probably take a week on the Helmsdale in February/March, a week on Delfur in May, have a crack at the grilse over at Grimersta for a week or two in July/August and then round the season off down at Floors on the Tweed in mid-October.
I reckon 2 grand should just about cover the fines if I happen to get caught.

I week on Amhuinnsuidhe Estate in the middle of August would probably relieve you of that £2K. Always dreamed of sea-trout fishing there... Hopefully when I'm forty I'll get a day on Park (Dee)...

Max 12 hours/day fishing for salmon. Twcstr Well grilse certainly, and I'm led to believe on some rivers the times are 7-12 then 4-11 the dinner drinks and bed up at 6 the next day etc........better book a week off to recover when you get home.

If that is what you really fancy then......Raft the Alagnak. Fish, drink, eat when you want. 5 different species of salmon, rainbows, char and wonderful wildlife. No women, no mobile phones etc. Camp every night and here is the good bit, you get to smoke cigars all the time......it helps keep the bears away ;D Give it some serious thought.......just don't sleep next to your food at night

Can't agree more Malcolm about the exhaustion - I should suggest sharing the rod with a lady friend in traditional highland fashion thus ; Long lie Pick lady friend up at 12 ..... Fish 4-11 Dinner Drinks Bed Wake lady friend at 6 sharp ! Sleep till 11 ! Remedy - I week in Forresterhill on a drip. M
