think i might have a go for the grayling tomorrow on the earn just down from crieff,it has been a long time since i had a grayling used to get them when fishing for trout with dries, so i have never actually targeted just grayling, i will probably start fishing upstream nymphs and spiders, any other tips you guys have? thanks in advance scotty.

Dont know too much about the scottish grayling but the kennet ones yesterday were hard on the bottom ,needed a fair bit of lead in the nymphs to get down too them ,If you can get some pink and yellowy orange bugs seem to be doing the buiss down south ! thanks in advance scotty.

acw's info is good.A friend of mine uses Czec nymphs a lot for grayling mainly in all shades of pinks with great success. Two days ago on the T ay at Kercock he had good success but he had to wait till 3 o'clock in the afternoon to get his first one, coinciding with a blink of sunshine. He mainly uses a 5 weight rod and 2 or 3lbs leader. Fishing deep on a short line seems to get the job done.. Hope this helps.

thanks lads, i went up today and mainly used heavey nymphs and czec nynphs, i lost one on a hare ear type thing with a red bead, apart from that nowt, but it was a good day. when purchasing my permit from the shop i was saddened to hear of a young angler (21 years old aparently) had drowned whilst fishing in the last fortnight, near kinkell bridge the lady told me. scotty.

He had damaged his leg in some way and his leg was in plaster, his mates found the crutches but no sign of him. .Perhaps the bank went from under him, plastered leg,no chance.

i read that story in paper! my thoughts went out to the parents etc then back to my own experiences and a broken leg wouldn't keep me away from fishing so could easily have been me when they found my car the first thing the police would see is my life jacket on the parcel shelf i never wear the thing but always in my car! one day in January few years back a banking gave way on me while fishing the tummel a lucky escape and not a few words in the daily record so next year the life jacket will get worn

i may have another go for the grayling in a couple of days, i was thinking about just using wets fished across and down as you would for trout, fished close to the bottom, is this a succesful method for grayling? thanks scott

My go too presentation is generally one or two leaded bugs cast a short distance upstream followd down stream with a mix of retreive and raising the rod ,then shaking line back out and lowering the rod until drag sets in . Any time after 11 am expect the odd rising fish and klinks and Paraduns may catch ,a much nicer way to catch
