Here's a question for you all........ I know a bit about Salmon and i know that the number of repeat spawners is very low, 3 or 4% i think someone mentioned in a previous post? There are obviously far fewer than there used to be and possibly/probably it's still falling on some rivers Stupid as this may sound..... has anyone ever tried netting out kelts from rivers and releasing them in the estuary? Surely that would increase the number of repeat spawners... especially hen fish? I know it may sound totally daft.... and feel free to call me a numpty if i am being daft! I know it will be classed as messing with nature... survival of the fittest and all that.... but how many kelts that might have made it back to sea will die after being caught in early January? and as for meddling with nature..... i think there are plenty of other problems with the environment... and Salmon need all the help they can get.

Wouldn't a salmon require slow acclimatizing to salt water?

i think a kelt would have to regain its strength before being faced with hundreds of seals wanting a bite. scotty.

releasing fish into the estuary would surely be no different from them swimming to it themselves... but without the effort? and the estuary at least at the river mouth will be brackish... and surely the fish would have as good a chance against the seals as they currently have?
