Are they good rivers? i liked the thought of the Tay but it seems all the beats i thought looked fishy are fully booked up at their peak times. Malcolm have you got any links for those rivers?
Thanks, Jay

If you want to fish the Tay then I can recommend Upper Farleyer beat. It's not prolific by any means but lovely fly water and hit it right you will be in with a shout. Cheap as well. www.fishingnet.com/Farleyer1.htm

I'll second that Rob great beat to fish never see many fish but i have had a couple and seen some cracking springers come off.I cant seem to make anything of the junction though. Jay have you had a look at Kercock it fishes well in august and there is normally available rods. Alan

If we have such low water as we've had the last few summers, I'd go to the Tay - at least you'll find some flowing water

Ahhh, the "old" A9! Them where the days! Liverpool to Rosehall in 2 days! Were you walking? In 1974 I could do Inverness to Edinburgh in a Wolsely 1500 in 3 hours 15 minutes, 2006 I can di Inverness to Edinburgh in a Jaguar 4.0 Supercharged in about 3 and 30 minutes some improvement.

We would "over-night" at Grantown-on-Spey. The long journey North continued (Daimler Sovereign 3.6) after a hearty breakfast.

But we digress...The Findhorn in summer is very much a hit or miss affair. Travelling over the "new" A9 near Tomatin is generally quite depressing at that time of year for fishers heading north! I have hit it right in the past and even been washed off for a day. Alan Bell out of Tomatin used to let beats by the day around the Tomatin area, but can't find his web site just now. Edit: Site under construction: www.findhornfishing.com/

Ah but now you have to slow down for speed cameras not those cars in the laybys

The new A 9 was constructed almost as quickly.

Was that with sawdust in the gearbox to stop the whine, or was yours a mid-week production version that could last 10,000 miles?

Now Richard which car are you talking about? Better than a Japenese thing with a pair of socks decorating the bonnet.

Japanese thing? That one rusted away so I now have an Audi Quattro. The socks will still feature though.

The Dingwall and District Angling club will more than likely be stuffed with fish when the grilse arrive (probably from late July if the last few years are anything to go by) providing there is not too much water, and would give you a very good chance of a fish.
The Kyle of Sutherland is also an option. This has some of the best summer fishing I have seen, period. Once again it fishes better in low water. This stretch is 100% tidal and saltwater, so some planning is required before your trip.
If do plan either of these rivers, give me a PM and I will fill you in on the what's and where's.

I've done a bit of research and it looks like its going to be either the Tay or the Isla. Been reccomended to fish either Murthly 1, Stobhall, Kercock, Cargill or Dalguise on the Tay anyone fished any of them in summer?
Thanks, Jay

Murthly 1 and Stobhall are very likely to be on timeshare at the time you mention, as for the others, well I'm a wee bit biased. However you might want to think about a day or so on each, depending on how long the trip is ! !.Advice.................do it soon, whilst it's there!

Sounds like you have been give a list of prime beats, some of which are in excess of £200 per day.
I think Kercock or Newtyle would be a better choice. Unless money is not an issue.
