Today we had our first fish of the season,Six pounds on fly,and released. Caught by PDAA member Ally Fyfe. Great. It was caught on that well known Tay spring fly.............................................The Black Dart I kid you not. I had barely heard of it,It was tied on an aluminium 1 1/2inch tube. Anyone have photo of a Black Dart, I know what I saw but I'm not sure if I was being wound up or not, ?? ;D

Well done Dennis hope it's the first of many, sure I read a book a few years ago and the author used the fly 'copper dart' all the time but can't remember the name of the book or author . Alan

Brilliant start - how many beats will be able to boast of getting their first of the season on fly, I wonder?
If I remember right, I think the Black Dart is just a black floss body with oval gold ribbing, an orange bucktail wing and JC cheeks. I fished with someone years ago who was a big fan of it. It originated on the River Dart in Devon - if anyone has any of Charles Bingham's books that would probably give the authentic dressing.

Dennis,
A good start, let us hope it is a good sign. What pool did it come from?
I was already looking forward to my first visit, even more so now!

Sorry Dennis, just noticed from the other thread that it was caught in the cottage stream. A fine cast in that height of water

Thanks lads, and on seeing the pic Graham I see it was'nt a wind up,thanks for thatI know you know Ally ,Graham ,he mentioned you yesterday. The water height was 5'3" when I arrived at the beat and 4,9 "when I left. I think of "baggots" as being fish which have not yet spawned rather than fish that won't be spawning ,after listening to a talk by a chap from the Freshwater Fisheries place at Aberdeen, who, when examining "baggots" found in every case each one was in fact a late spawner, We have had two of these that I'm aware of. The fish took at the Cottage stream close into the right bank opposite the first tree down from the gate Garry.

Well done Dennis.
I hear the first was taken on the River Moriston by Duncan Mackenzie today, It weighed 9 lb and was taken on a minnow. Another was lost on the Oich yesterday.

Cottage stream close into the right bank opposite the first tree down from the gate Garry. Good to hear that the big water hasn't affected the hot spots
