I was thinking about taking a day on the lower beat(linn pool) and was wondering what to expect ??

I've only ever fished the top of the beat, as it has good fly water. I have heard that the Linn pool is overrated and only fishes at a certain height of water that holds the fish back. I think it is high cold water that it fishes well in, as the force of water deters fish from tackling the falls. However, overall it is a good beat and well worth a cast.

The lower Beat is a much better option in the Spring than the top beat. It has good fly water at Red Rocks and Findford Head. Red Rocks is usually the best in the early spring with a nice pace and not too deep.
The Linn Pool itself is one of the best casts in the Tay for an early springer but most of it is spinning water. The exception is The Green Bank at the back of Bellimore Island which can be a great fly cast in big water.
It's well worth a shot and the grandeur of the scene at the Linn Pool with a big water running is awesome. Go for it !
