Hi all
Can anyone explain how to interpret the gauge levels
i.e What does -2in mean & what is the optimum gauge level for say the Dee at Park?

Each staition will have a "summer level" which I guess varies from river to river. Anything above or below this marker point will be noted as seen on the fish scotland websites. -2" is 2" below summer level. The optimum fishing height varies from pool to pool. A fast bit of river may fish well at two inches above summer level whereas just round the corner a slow, meandering canal-like stretch may fish best with two feet on the gauge. The only answer is to get to know your pools and make a note of when they hold and/or produce fish and indeed if the lies in each pool hold fish at different heights Simple (I wish!) Park fishes pretty well at most heights, but I like the lower Dee to be around 8" above summer level.
