Had some samples of the Temple dog hair arrive today. (will post some pics later) along with some very interesting small brass tubes.
As I was talking to a chap he asked if I could get long goat hair and I said yes, along with Polar Bear hair.
He nearly bit My hand off- Loads of people looking for it he said.
Is it of any interest ??
It takes two weeks from order as it needs a cites cert to leave the country I would buy it from. It comes in skin pieces of around 5x5 cm before dyeing and in 42 colours.

Interesting hair, its transluscent and glistens in the light, try it instead of bucktail in shrimp fly tails, quite long hair.Dont know how many people use it though

I seen a friend of mine who ties his own flies tying one in the back of the car. I asked him why he was doing it there and he said that he had told his wife ( conservationist) the he only used materials from road kills. He was tying a fly from polar bear and thought he didn't have a suitable explanation for his wife. ;D

Beautifully translucent but tends to be much stiffer than most hairs especially after the dyeing process. I sometimes use it as an underwing to give support to softer hairs. I have found that buying pieces sight unseen is a hit or a miss. Occaisionaly you get beautiful long, translucent hair then other times (most) you get short disappointing course stuff (reminiscent of you know what !). If you can get the former type then I would gladly take some.

If the quality is A1 (and I'm sure it will be) then I'd be interested

i had exactly the same experience as jim above - one piece of nice long translucent hair - the rest horrible short stiff hair, like deer hair - not much use for salmon flies. the steel headers swear by it but its probably best bought when you can look at it first to select the right quality

Have been using yellow and orange polar bear fur since the 06 Angling Fair at Kelso. I think it was purchased from Flytek the proprietor advised to only use a small pinch, not to make a full wing from it. This season, since June the same dressing incorporating small amounts of orange and yellow polar bear fur have accounted for 23 migratory fish salmom, grilse and sea trout. At least as many have been lost or missed during this time, fishing included a bumper day of five on the bank , best 8lb, and two lost. The above were included in a bumper week of 11 grilse, twice 3 from the same stream within a half hour, and two salmon. O' and 19 of the above fish were from association waters. Being a thrifty Scot I never buy or tie jungle cock, despite the horrendous expense of polar bear fur it is well worth the price. Tweedsider.
