Fellow forum members - it has been drawn to my attention in no uncertain terms (see the new thread "Influence of Salmon Fishing Writers" - end of page one going over to page two ) that WE are all guilty in our posts of "apostrophe abuse". Apparently all forms of punctuation abuse are "rampant on this site" and is causing Wullie Gunn and Sloggi to have kittens at OUR usage of apostrophe's (particularly), colon's, semi-colons and inappropriate punctuation generally. This was drawn to my attention this evening a mere two minutes after I posted a reply to the above mentioned thread stating that in my opinion the Falkus book Salmon Fishing was a good read. What happened next can only be described as bizarre. Please go to this thread and read what has been written in order that WE might learn and in future give more thought to our grammar and punctuation when replying to posts. Better do this now as I suspect the Global Moderator will edit or remove THIS post shortly in the name of sensible moderation. What are your views on this ?? Are we taking part in what is basically a fishing CHATROOM or are we to consider the punctuational or grammatical content of our posts as being commensurate with the standards expected from degree level students of English Lit ?. As I have stated before, you would think that the moderators would have more important issues to contend with like the member 'notiping' and his rantings and not allow themselves to become anal to the point of obsession over bloody punctuation

It could be a lot worse, we could all be using "TEXT SPEAK".

I have both Falkus book's and tend to look upon them as the definitive guide's. Have read all the classics by the Oglesby's, Currie's, Little's etc etc etc but Falkus is the 'one' for me. Lesser known ?.........What about Justice Kingsmill Moore's classic "A Man May Fish" - great read. Regards to all. Your apostrophe key is stuck it is depositing them everywhere; it looks like a greengrocer’s shop. Never could stand Falkus far too much talk about bait fishing and spinning for me. If my post was bring to your attention in no uncertain terms I'm sorry. let's no't bothe'r with gramme'r rule's at al'i just stick apostrphe's in wher'e eve'r. I feel ishould however point out there is a difference between an apostrophe and quotation mark's but what dose it mater. By the way I still dislike Falkus Salmon Book weather you like it or not neither poots me up or doon

I think those responsible for running this site should clarify for Mr Gunn exactly what the role of moderator entails - I, as stated earlier, see him as a clown, however he is annoying some folks with his petty interferring. If he is doing this under the guise of moderator I suggest you remove him from this role asap, otherwise he will become as annoying as a toothache [if you pardon the pun ;D]

WG has already stated that he is not doing this in his role as moderator, he is doing this (as he has been since long before most of us joined this forum) in his role as Willie Gunn. It's just a bit of banter that has gone a bit too far. Kissing and making up should have been and gone by now, "mountains and molehills" indeed.

Ensure that all posts are suitable for viewing by everyone, ie remove all porn and inappropiate links. Remove any posts that endanger the hosting of the site. Stop any over heating of arguements at an early stage if at all possible. If I miss any of the above please drop me a PM. More simply an unpaid janitor. I no wot a modarator's job is

WG I see your moto is Quot homines tot sententiae; very true and apt. In light of your role in the current tiz, how do you stand on Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Yours aye CLaG In translation, just in case there is anyone who has dared to come on this site armed with an insufficient grasp of basic Latin as well as poor punctuation : "There are as many opinions as there are persons" or sometimes "So many opinions, so many persons" & "Who shall guard the guards themselves"

Yes, this is just banter carried over from the fly fishing forum where a number of characters (WG, Cothi etc) have a bit of a laugh correcting each others spelling mistakes and grammar. It has gone on for years, and is usually just good natured fun.
