By the way can some kind member offer me a bit of advice. If you are wearing wellies what is the best way of keeping your tootsies warm in this cold weather? Neoprene socks? multi layers? Cos my feet have been as cold as xxxx the last few days on the river bank Cheers lads To 'save' the moderating thread I've created this as a new post.... The secret of warm feet in wellies. You won't like it. Really, you won't. 1st - start off with a pair of tights - colour unimportant, but I hear black is popular ;D 2nd - Cut the tights to about calf height and check for 'fit'. 3rd - 2 or 3 layers of socks, start thin go to thick. When I was a ghillie this set up served me well although we wore thigh waders - let's not go too far with the stockings thing and waders I thought it was daft, but it works. Neoprene socks - don't bother if you want to have any sort of domestic bliss, your feet will smell and they're not that good IMHO

Greenbanks, Leave the 4x4 at the hut and have a wee walk between the rods, I'm sure this will keep the tootsie's warm. Either that or maybe the heater in the motor is broken ;D Seriously, When I'm out fishing I always wear two pair of socks and then the neoprene sock of the breathable waders. My tootsie's are always warm but then again I'm probably concentrating on the fly swing across the pool which takes my mind off the cold feet SAY

Suspect that perspiration is not wicking away and getting cool. Quit the oily rags 6 months ago so probably screwed up my blood circulation after 30 years on the weed. I think the answer is a sock that wicks out but keeps heat in and would gladly pay whatever it takes. There is nothing more annoying than blooming cold feet on a cold day as they never seem to get warm even after a good walk.

Norris of Penrith have a really good deal just now on the 'Hunter Hi-Scree' boot. I bought a pair recently for about £70 (size 12) in their sale and they are really comfy, waterproof, lined, warm and stylish. These were reduced from MMRP £150. I received their most recent 'flyer' and they are selling sizes 6/7 at £40 !!. Sale of the century as far as I am concerned. Recommended without reservation.

Hi there,
The problem with the neoprene socks is condensation. When the condensation builds up you get damp/wet feet leading to bl**dy cold ones. I had the same problem with my stockingfoot waders.
If you wear the socks of your choice, normal or fleeced followed by some waterproof breathable socks such as seelskinz then your neoprene socks, boots or whatever you have on. This keeps your feet dry & therefore warmer. The breathables keep the condensation out while letting out the moisture around your feet.
Worked for me.
Cheers

Throw the wellies away, bin the fancy socks etc. just buy yourself a good pair of "Moon Boots".Lots of different styles available now try coarse fishing shops, you don't have to look like a wally these days nor have the problems in walking on muddy/frozen banks.Had Moon Boots and Moon Boot thigh waders for eons always had roasty toasty feet in the colder months.
