Ok, here goes: Grilse run will be late but the condition of the fish will be better than last season, the autumn run will be as healthy as recent seasons, and Liverpool will rule Europe again

Right summer is here, its hot the ground is parched and rivers are low, grilse will be few and far between, and when they do come at the back end they'll be thin and ragged, were" DOOMED". NOW THATS WHAT I CALL PESSIMISM

Prediction : a late but prolific spring run for all rivers on the next set of east coast spates - imminent. Regular 'top ups' during May. A good run of heavy summer fish during June for those prepared to fish early and late - water levels approx 1 1/2 ' above summer low. Excellent seatrout season during June and into July ("best we've had for years") with enough rain to raise levels even by a few inches maybe once a week. A WET August for the grilse - river levels up and doon like the proverbial 'hoors drarz' for certain 'spate' rivers I fish. OK - maybe the grilses are a wee bit later again this year but the generally 'wet' summer I predict will bring these wee fresh in throughout August. A big early September spate followed by another towards the end of the month would be ideal.....certainly on my rivers. Rain - lots of it. Simple.........nothing wrong with dreaming is there ?
