After all the tactical debate, i thought it would be interesting to see what you make of the upper bridge pool on the birse side at aboyne. No tricks I caught nothing. I am far acrosss the stream and am above the junction of the streams. As I fished down I moved closer to the birse side shortening the line and lengthening it as i got to the bridge. The pool had several fish in it. Only one kept showing- high up in the stream- follow the rod point down a bit- thats the spot. We saw the fish from the bridge and fishingd0 watched as the ignored the fly. So I also had some aerial reconn. Now, the day in question was like the algarve, but i fished the pool before the sun was on it. My abject failure apart- 5" collie and 1/4' tosh and all points in between were tried- how should the pool be fished?

You fished it exactly as I would have done except I would have used a shooting head to strip the collie.

Nice looking pool - looks easy to read and I would have fished it the same way as you.
8 rods fished Craigellachie Monday - Wednesday last week and the only fish hooked (and lost almost straight away) came to a small (size 14 ?) fly fished on a very fast sinking line in the Broom Isle pool.
The guy who hooked the fish told me that the same tactic worked for him on the Dee last season - I think CLaG mentioned this method in a previous thread.
I suppose the lesson to be learnt is keep ringing the changes if your tactics aren't working - the guy in question had 3 rods set up!
