Have a look on ebay but you'll need the correct spelling: it's gentian violet.

It is gentian violet and it is a dye/stain - we used to use it at work. Sub depends on what you are using it for? You will probably still be able to buy it from someone like Sigma-Aldrich

cheers ss i used to dye my prawns with it years ago, and could purchase it in any pharmacy, but its no longer available, im heading to co mayo soon for a little shrimp fishing, (something different) thats why im looking 4 it. thanks 4 the feed back guys.

Gentian Violet ? Isn't that a cure for crustaceans? 30yrs of treating your average seafarer's astounding range of social diseases has left my memory impaired. If it's out there he'll get it.
