I was recently staying at Dunkeld House Hotel while fishing the tay and had the good fortune to see a pine martin on the hunt for rabbits - this is the first time I've seen one and took a second look to identify what I was looking at.
Does anyone know if they are quite common in this area?

Don't know, but on my recent trip north I saw a red squirrel for the first time, near Loch Tay.

You should have said I have ones which visit the garden on a regular basis. By the way pine martins are killers and kill squirrells, nasty beasts

Malcolm almost as good as a recent video clip I've seen. It was of a Grey Squirrel being launched by an automatic clay launcher. They had a few nuts on the base plate and waited for the 'tree rat' to appear. 'Pull' was the last words it ever heard.

True story. Apparently a restaurant somewhere in Arkansas has squirrel regularly on its menu. Alongside the dish descriptor it states "May contain nuts"............no, really ! ;D

Speyside Malt Distillery in Kingussie.a couple of years ago.About ten of us standing at the entrance in lovely sunshine at about mid-day and a pine marten casually strolls down from the woods and crosses the road no more than 25yds away.Suprised at it's size, much bigger than I imagined.
