With regard to conservation and the some what varied interpretation of what classifies as a bleeding fish. Would the use of barbless hooks not improve the conservation of Spring salmon? I would argue that all anglers fly or spinner should be using barbless hooks from the start of the season. If an angler wishes to release the fish then this is a simply procedure without removing the fish from the water. Should the various beats be enforcing a rule on Barbless hooks only

I don't think barbless hooks will make that much of a difference as far as the bleeding is concerned but you'd probably not land as many fish then again I'm struggling to land the blighters with barbed hooks at the mo .

I think that the banning of trebles, or possibly even a restriction to singles only, is a more useful conservation measure than going barbless.
But maybe that was going to be the subject of your next poll!

Started tying a few silk cuts on bigish singles for the spring ,and use only BMD doubles for my tubes and Waddys ,dead easy for unhooking the Kelts compared with trebles . Trebles often need forceps singles can often be done with just finger and thumb ,3 times faster so the fish is back in its environment faster . Have not dressed any silkies on trebles for 3 years now ,still one or two in the odds and sods boxes ,mainly doubles ,a few singles but more that way to come!

Loop Doubles for me and if needs be a quick barb enflatenment with Greenbanks pliers to fit in with the surgery he administers to treble wielders.
