My mum and stepdad are going on a short break to perth for three days and i was wanting to get some fishing if possible. It's my dad that does the fishing so i'll be on my own. I thought the Tummel would be good but iv'e been told that it's too late in the season for there. I'm looking for somewhere within 1/2 an hours drive from Pitlochry. Any suggestions would be great.

Try Ruan Ruarie on the Garry if conditions are okay. Not sure about it being too late for the Tummel either.......... When are you hoping to fish?

This doesn't really affect the Ruan Ruarie beat - after a bit of rain there should be fish all the way through it. (Probably fish in most pools already)

Had a look on the fishtay website. There is rods available on the Ruan Ruarie beat on the days i am going. Think i will book a day and hope for the best. No doubt there will be no rain and it will be hopeless. But what the hell.

Ryan, If you are going to Ruan Ruarie, take a double hander as well, some of the pools can be wide and line mending essential if you want to hang the flies over fishy looking bits. The Isla and the Ericht might also be worth a go. The Ericht would be a better bet for the fly. If you are fishing during the week you can get on the club water of the Ericht at Blairgowrie. Try Kate Flemming tackle shop in Blairgowrie; nice water, reasonable price. There are some rods available on Kercock on the Friday. Cracking water, any method (within reason ), always a good chance of a fish, excellent ghillies, and a good laugh to boot. I don't know how the Earn is fishing at the moment, but there are some nice bits of water available within an easy drive from Perth. Kinkell is a nice bit of water for the money.

It might be a good idea not to book anything until the last minute. There should be rods available on Ruan Ruarie, Portnacraig or Lower Tummel - keep an eye on the Pitlochry angling club website and go for a last minute booking - or is it too late now?
