Spey-O-Rama 2008
The Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club, San Francisco, California, USA, has scheduled its popular international Spey-O-Rama for Friday through Sunday, April 18 - 19 - 20, 2008. This event is the US OPEN of SPEY CASTING!
The club's web site is "ggacc.org". You'll see photos of the idyllic setting in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.
Set your schedules; save the dates. Everyone is welcome at this unique international fun-filled event. Many of the world's best Spey casters will compete is the sport's most "fishing realistic" contest anywhere, where anglers demonstrate their skills from 3' deep water [ladies event a bit shallower] with production rods no longer than 15' 1" long. Casters must demonstrate four casts, two over each shoulder, with a 40 to 45 degree change of direction. This is the toughest Spey event in the world. Add San Francisco's swirling ocean winds and you have a major challenge.
There is a separate men's and women's event. Incidentally the last ladies event [with 10 competitors] was won by Kateri Clay of British Columbia using a bamboo Spey rod built by her Dad, Bob Clay. We had the Carron team of six from Scotland, ten from the Japan Casters Association, competitors and demonstration casters from much of the world as well as major participation from Canada and the US.
A short few years ago Willie Gunn placed well in this event, and we missed him the last two years. Malcolm, we hope to see you again!
To provide more water availability during the event, Two Hand Certification [THCI] will take place Monday, April 21, 2008.
