I have decided not to put this in "Rookies Corner" because I now see myself as a salmon angler, having caught my first (delusions of adaquacy,I feel). Was up in Speyside for a few days and on the advice of some members booked a lesson with Ian Gordon last Sunday.Absolutely fantastic! What little I had learned in the last year was thrown completely out the window.Ian's patience and teaching methods were brilliant.I had booked the next day on Wester Elchies and was kept right by everyone present. My new-found casting skills produced my first ever salmon on the fly, only a kelt, safely returned, but I was SO chuffed.

It was a good scrap as far as I was concerned.Sam the ghillie put it at about 14 pounds. Can't imagine what a springer of the same weight feels like.(One day)

Well done you. That must have been a great feeling -now there can't be a duck this season - thats a grand way to start the year.Bet you have a lot more this year. Here's hoping anyway.

Well done, now that you've felt that initial pull and draw of line you'll probably be hooked like the rest of us. The only cure is more fishing!!!

Congratulations on that mind-blowing achievement! I know it was that: I caught my first salmon last October, almost on my 62nd birthday. It was, for me, one of the most influential moment of my life, and I wish it could have come years earlier.

well done!! thats all you needed... now you know that you are doing things right! Next one will be a bar of silver! Until you get that first offer or land that first fish you are never fully confident that you are fishing the right way! So well done and good luck with the fututre!
