Two different photos for me. Interesting name for the thread - reminds of a game we used to play at school called RED ARSE

Thanks, I can now clearly see the anal area. While I can see a lot of dried blood around the spine, I am a little surprised that the inside area around the anus isn't showing more damage. Did you observe anything unusual when you gutted it?

reminds me of a heavy night on the curry and beers ;D Seriously though I hope this isn't yet another thing which is going to impact on numbers and survival...

I think the second picture is to show the evidence of the worms in the liver area, which I believe is what is being blamed for the damage to the vent.

The information that the LLAIA have been given is for the fish to be returned to the river Obviously this will mean they will not be gutted and the intestines won't come in contact with the angler this came from the Scottish executive

SK,
Thats a sad sight and probably the worst case i have seen so far this season.
It's worrying to think with all the current issues that we get an unexplained problem showing on a good percentage of fish that are returning.
Hope the scientific world get to the bottom of it.

H,
This fish was a springer taken in march ,and the damage you see here isn't at the anus but behind the anal fin, probably caused by lamprey.
