Hi
I have just recently joined the Perth Angling Association (PDAA) I have been told that next year 2008 that the club is dumping the Kerock beat on the Tay? Has anyone heard what they are taking in its place?
I never got the chance to fish the beat this year. Anyone know why the club is dumping the fishing there?

The beat has recently been taken over by a new owner, and having met him once, I immediately got the feeling that he wasn't the charitable type. Perhaps the terms he was offering the beat to the PDAA under, were not pallatable to the club, or, perhaps he never offered any fishings at all. Either way, he will see his catch figures plummet. It really is a shame, because Dennis, and laterly Gary, have always been very good to club members. A lot of club members book other days on Kercock as full paying guests. It will be interesting to see if any of them boycott the beat. The fishing available on this beat is the main reason that I take the PDAA ticket; I hope they find a suitable replacement.

I only joined the PDAA this year and the main reason was for the Kercock fishing. Hopefully they will have something decent instead but I can't even guess where they will get a similar amount of fishing - in effect, 36 rods a week for 5 and a half months. Maybe Dennis will shed some light on the situation - maybe even some words of wisdom?!

Yes can't see where they will find another beat to be so obliging and your right there catches will drop theres some damn good anglers in PDAA.Personally I wont be joining next year didn't get my moneys worth this year through no fault of the club.

I got my moneys worth this year, but I had to take mid-week rods and leave from work in order to do so. I cannot see the club giving up Kercock easily, so I can only assume that the terms were changed. It is not a dear ticket, so you only need a few days in the spring to justify the cost. I personally would not boycott Kercock, but if the new owner has snubbed the PDAA, it will stick in my throat to put money in his pocket, he certainly doesn't need any more money!!!

Fruin I was offered plenty of rods in the spring but was only able to fish east haugh(nice beat).Lots of spring fishing readily available in the 40 quid range so don't think I will bother this year haven't to go into mallochs to get tickets later on in the year for the likes of u. delvine and lower redgorton is not really practical for me.

Madkeen, I'm in a similar boat myself, not being local. Kercock was always worth it though. Sadly, I was never offered East Haugh last year, but did get Islamouth I think that the club would get a lot more business from non-local rods, if you could book the days on all the beats. A trek from Glasgow to Perth on a Friday afternoon, just to find out that there are no rods left for the Saturday is not, as you say, practical.

Sounds like Kercock is very popular?
The man I spoke to was fishing the Spey last week and he said that the new owner was a wanker (please excuse my language) I have never met him nor the ghillies but it sounds like the ghillies are sound guys. I have to travel nearly sixty miles to get a permit - may be I have made a boob in joining

Shame about Kercock. Like some of you guys I did likewise, took some Club days and then went back under my own steam. Denis was a class act too. P&DAA needs to do some serious thinking about how it treats its guest members as the balance is fully against those outside of Perth. Either having to travel the day before to chance getting a permit or phone Mallochs after 4:30 the day before isn't a brilliant arrangement. The club members are decent guys and very helpful and I appreciate that a number of them selflessly support and run the club in their own time, but if you work during the week and live outside Perth the chance of getting value from your membership is limited. I probably won't join again next season.

HERE IS THE LATEST BULLETIN, It's all a load of b#llocks. The present owner has never said that the PDAAwould not get the Kercock fishing next year.I spoke to him about that today to get it verified. I can also verify that the beat is now on the market................again. I cannot say whether the PDAA is or is not taking the beat next year but ,,,,given that a fair percentage of their committee thought that a certain notice put up in our hut said....................... The first salmon of the session must be returned. In fact said..................... THE FIRST SALMON OF THE SEASON MUST BE RETURNED. Who knows what they will come up with next season ! What I have heard is that they may not have Delvine next year. In the meantime, thanks for the bit of support there lads,we do appreciate it. If anybody wishes to make any personal attacks via the website, they are more than welcome to come to the beat to discuss it ,man to man.

Could you tell me who you were speaking to to get this information? I would really appreciate it if you happen to know who the source was?
I certainly have not heard anything about PDAA not taking Kercock during 2008. I would have thought that I would have heard something probably before anyone else!!!!!!!!!!!
Dennis - hope you are well. I have had a horrendous year this year with the loss of my dad. Hopefully I will be up to see you and Gary next season. Tightlines for the remainder of the season.

Tayspringer,
The retention of Kercock for the PDAA is certainly good news, and has put a smile on my face. It is a real shame about the bad news; I am sorry to hear about your loss.
