Hi, Im looking for a days fishing on the first Oct max price£50 and will travel about 2hrs outside glasgow. Could anybody advise on any decent rivers/beats they have tried and tested at this time of year to suit my needs?
Cheers....

Some decent fishing on the North and South Esks and a good chance of a fish for 50 notes.

You will not go wrong with salmonshrimps suggestion. The club has been catching as many as 20 a day for the last 2-3 weeks. Great value for money and some very good fly water.
In october you would expect around a quarter of the fish caught to be licers, with the majority fairly fresh.

Gordon just looking at the pics on the website it's pretty obvious why you Ness types grow up to be decent spey casters. How does the fisher of more modest capabilities cope?

Not so bad at all. It is amazing how true the old saying goes "a short line fished well is better than a long line fished poor". Keep consistent turnover and fish with confidence and you have a good chance of catching, the fish are not always on the other bank.

Hi Gordon
Your spot on, a lot of fish on the Ness can be taken on the dangle, and in the middle of the stream. IMO Confidence is probably the most important factor

I look forward to giving it a go sometime.
(Add to ever growing wish-list of places to fish).

Hi Crawuk,
Worth giving the R Earn at Kinkell bridge a look - call Sandy the ghillie for an update on availability (google River Earn/Kinkell bridge, or there is a link on this forum under Scottish rivers posted by Trinity Gask with contact details for Sandy).
Let me know (pm if nec) if it's fully booked, as I will perhaps have a rod or two spare on the last week of October (prime) and might be able to squeeze you in on our party.
Cheers,
Altmor

You have to travel early morning and keep going all the way, (which I assume you would do when going fishing) because there are few cars on the road then. Plenty bits of dual carriageway to pass any lorries/caravans.

Cheers lads, got a V.W. golf altmor. Will have to talk to the other half on venue. Obviously it all depends on whether or nor there are good little towns roundabout to keep her happy as we are planing an overnight stay, so Inverness might not be such a bad idea as there are plenty of shops. (Maybe i should just give her a rod and tell her to make the best out of a bad situation)
