Macca,
I have never used snake style flies for Salmon or Sea Trout. I guess they would be fished like a collie dug & sunray shadow. Square cast, let it swing round coupled with stripping or roly poly.
Where do you fish and is it Sea Trout you mainly go for ?.
Also welcome to the Forum.

Macca, I have mates who fish for sea trout and caught many salmon during the night. Catching them during the day is hard enough never mind at night . I would try mixing your night by using stripping and roly poly retrieving along with your current method. As for type and colours then i suppose anything black and silver would create a dark silhouette. Trying out sinking flies or wake flies would be a case of suck it and see. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Hornet
