How many forum members are finding that the current dry month is knackering their sport. Here in the Borders there are still reports of a few fish coming into the Whiteadder but rain is badly needed to encourage a run of fresh fish. Spoke to Kate Flemings at Blairgowrie today and the same situation seems to apply on the Ericht, plenty of fish stacking up in the Isla but few making the smaller rivers. Again during August when Tweed was unfishable with fly the quicker falling Whitadder was giving good sport. Horses for courses but I hope its pissing down at Cranshaws

I would prefer a little bit of rain every three days.

Aye wouldn't we all . Mind you just as well we cannot control the weather as there would be rows as big as fights every ten minutes. Some want it dry some want it wet. The farmer wants the sun to shine on his harvest field and the rain to fall on his turnips. ;D oh dear, oh dear I would prefer a little bit of rain every three days.

No rain, please, but a nice hard frost this Sunday night. That'll get them taking at Wester Elchies on Monday. And the Deveron is fine at the moment too.

May it lash down, and soon. There used to be a river below the dam in Pitlochry.

The Snowdonia rain making machine in N Wales is usually very reliable, but we are in desperate need of some now.
Rain is forecast Sunday/Monday, and the forecast looks more unsettled for the rest of the month.
Hooray! ;D

Hi donnieW is there any benefit in fishing below a hydro electric generating station? Upstream of the Dam there must be a vast storage of water waiting for periodic released ? Does this create mini spates or is the effect soon lost? I have fished thrice on Lower Tummel and not been aware of any fluctuations.
Cheers borderod

The only advantage, IMO, is early in the season when the spring fish stop below the dam until the water temp warms up. This is nothing to do with the generating side of things. I've had days on the Tummel when the water is going up and down all through the day and found this to be a real disadvantage. So far this year it has been pretty much like any other river - if there's rain they let water go and if not (like now) it's low.
