Only fished it at Avochie before Scotty - would have thought though floating with 8 - 12 ft braid / polyleader med sink - or as you say an intermediate would do the trick, coupled with possibly a size 8 shrimp pattern - ally's or cascade.
Would depend on water height though so keep an eye on the sepa stations - we're forcast a fair bit of rain for the rest of the week - moreso in the West - but it could hit the Deveron catchment.
Cheers,
Altmor.

Speak to Frank in the tackle shop: he will put your right for the Turriff area.
Today, I was up towards Huntly and the water was at 1 foot, clear, but peaty. Managed a salmon and a grilse, and my pal had a salmon, all coloured though.

From what I hear, is that fish are well distributed up and down the river. Today at Huntly we had another three between us, one being clean.

Been out today so not up to speed, but three visitors had fish off the Turriff Angling Association today so either Scotty or his Dad had a fish today.
Sea liced fish piling through in the afternoons around Turriff. Many beats in double figures each day for three in a row now.

Andy
Depends on water height etc. This week the first two days were lost due to high water. One angler booked the beat for himself but did have guests on etc. Not heavily fished but they did manage over 15 landed up until Friday afternoon with as many hook ups.
Hornet coneheads were doing the damage.

what a cracking bit of water at turriff ;D well worth the visit, i managed a grilse about 4lbs 8oz clean fish, from the flats my dad never managed any . there was other fish lost and caught nothing very big though but not to worry, all but one of the fish i heard of on friday were clean. so i will go back to turriff . the other anglers on the water were amongst the friendliest i have ever met they just chatted away like we were old mates . anyway if you are thinking about going to turriff give it a go good fly water. scotty
