off to the earn in the morn.anyone fished it lately...........................?lower stretch cheers Remember fishing at the Freelands beat on the Earn about tihis time of year after getting a ticket from Country Life in Edinburgh. Had watched a video by John Andrews, flyfishing ithingk it was called where he is catching a fair few lunkers from the Earn. I caught a fish that day covered in lice and 38 inches long from snout to fork of tail,I guess 20 lbs but such a strong fish,it really kicked my butt .I caught the fish but have to say my brother Dave caught 3 that day and every fish was silver and sea liced. If your fishing is half as good you will have a good day.

Haven't been out all month so I thought I would have a go at Lower Aberuthven. At £20 for a day I don't expect a lot but what sort of water is it? Should I be prepared for a day "rapping" or is there decent fly water?

Maybe have a good shot with both then. Fishing with 2 mates - one only uses the fly and the other uses fly and spinner when he's with me but when the fly-only man is there the other one only fishes fly as well! (think I got that right ) I just do whatever has to be done - anything goes. ;D

aye aye donnie how you doing bud. i fish lower aberuthven a lot .its great for the money and has some great pools and some fast water for the flee .there is 7 main spots for hooking up. a man of your calibre should be able to read the pools and runs no bother. there is no need for big spey casts so its easy fishing .if u go in at the top of the beat u can work your way down most of the water no bother its good wading the hot spot for me is were the small burn runs in on your right hand side if you look 30 40 feet down on your left you will see a big boulder sloping down the far bank cast for it and let it swing if you go down a bit further you will see a big lump of concrete on the right bank there is four of them going right across the river ................man made........ let it swing across them . fish come up from the wear and lie behind the boulders for a breather then you have the wear thats lovley water for the flee .......further down on the left u will see an old cottage 100 yards down from there is a good spot but it can be hard getting in the water at times ...........................its very scenic and has loads of kingfishers and other wildlife i could go on all night but have to get out to the big bad sea hope this helps a little donnie rgds ss......................ps if u have a 4x4 you can drive most of the river ........tight lines

Blanked! Very low water but saw a few fish. I got the feeling that quite a lot of the beat would fish better from the other bank, especially the bottom pool. Started wading down by the trees in the nice stream at the top of the run but had to get out before I reached the best of it. Worth a go in higher water, I reckon.
