I heard through the grapevine that a massive 38lbs salmon was caught on the town water in callander yesterday, method or state of the fish was not mentioned. I know the captor personally and i am delighted for him as hes a great old fella.

Well Done that's an amazing fish i was fishing downstream when i had a phone call saying there had been a 38 pounder caught in Callender. There was a angler the next pool up from me this week who played a fish for quite a while unfortunately he lost it and that was suppose to be over 30 pounds as well so there is a few monsters lurking up and down the Teith at the moment . Tight lines

thats a crackin fish . 180 quid for the season if you are an outsider. cant beat that price.i love the teith in the summer it can be a very productive river for the sea troot and it is a big fish river as proven. peter andersson took a fish of 40 from the bottom of the car park pool 5 or 6 years ago i find the geisher pool the best beat on the callander ticket if the water height is right its some crackin fly water wich can easily be fished with a single hand rod also its a great beat for the novice to work on. its a pitty that most of the river is private though

An almost unbelievable fish in these times - good to hear they're still about.
Just out of interest, I know Mr Jamie McCabe took a 42lbr from the Teith last year (it says so in the T&S, so must be true), but does anyone know the record size from the Teith ?

The biggest fish I have seen coming off the Teith was a 44lber but that was a good number of years ago. I remember in my early salmon fishing years standing on the sandstone bridge below the car park in Callender watching well over 200 fish resting from the bend to the bridge. I have never seen so many fish in one pool since then. It was an awesome sight. By the way where is the Pipers Pool? Plenty of fish showing on the Forth today and plenty of people fishing There were a few round about the 20lb mark but none for me

I have heard of a 50lbs plus fish taken on worm from the Blue Banks in the 1950's. Anyone else remember or hear of it? I spoke to the guy and his English mate from the Raploch who caught it around 1972-3. I have no reason to doubt them as they were definitely old hands at the worming.

Just back from the Teith, hooked 4, broken by a descent fish after it ran me into a snag, lost a second after a couple of minutes, landed the third, a coloured cock fish around 6lb which was returned, lost the 4th after a tremendous scrap, ran me over 80 yards downstream before parting with the hook, reckon this fish was well into the teens of lbs. All 4 fish were hooked on my own floating devons. all i all not a bad day. sorry, never managed any photos as weather was too squally. I think ill try again wednesday as the water is looking good. Ps. i spoke to willie C, the captor of the 38lber. He informed me that sadly the fish would not revive and so had to be killed. Willie, over the years has had quite a few big fish and has returned his fair share.
