After this years Tay jaunt my fly selection revolved round a few patterns,Cascade,Allys and Silver Allys.Have been looking in my big Wheatly double sided box never mind the pocket boxes and the amount of stuff in there thats never provoked any piscine interest or even got wet is staggering.Whenever I tie owt its always in the full range of sizes from 14s up to 6s sometimes in doubles and trebles, there are lots of patterns with only one or two sizes left. The point to this is,do I waste time replenishing the box to its original and former glory or bite the bullet strip the lot off and re-tie on the tried and trusted old faithful stuff.Either way there is lots of work ahead, the common sense part of me says DO IT,but the little devil sat on my shoulder keeps whispering you never know you might need that one one day Any way thinking about switching to these few flies just for doubles/trebles anyway;Cascade,Allys,Silver Allys,Pearly Stoats Tail and Munro Killer. So this is the first step towards fishing by committee what do you lot think I should do,indeed have I missed owt out(Kylie fans form a Que)could I do with a couple more to cover options?.Either way its given me headache thinking about it, now wheres the anadin.Over to you now,Pedro.

Rennie,
I'm pretty much the same. Keep telling myself I'll redo a whole hoard of the old ones in patterns I seem to fish most of these days ...... but never do and always end up buying more new hooks to tie up.
Must easily have over 1500 flies built up over the seasons .... and as you say use only a handful of patterns as regular faithfuls now.
Common patterns for me now are Cascade (with a red butt tag), the copper king, yellow Ally's and a recent addition the copper cascade (again with red butt tag). Occasionally will try a stoat's tail, executioner or arndilly fancy if summer water levels are low, but am finding a smaller and sparser dressed cascade does just as well in these conditions.
Might have a go at it myself over the X-mas hols, when I look forward to days of doing nothing - just pottering at the vice, eating and drinking ;D
Ahhh .... bisto !!

What do the fish think? Have you asked them? In a nutshell it is what you fancy that matters
