The season opened on the 1st. February, but the river has been in flood & unfishable for most of the month. The river is just starting to fall & should be in fishable order in the next couple of days. Hopes are high to get the first springer of 2007 soon. You can follow what is happening on the river on the Blackwater Lodge website There is daily updated fishing report page (registration for username & password required.)

Well said Springer. This is a fishermans Forum, and whilst I don't for a moment dispute Ian is not "one of us", blatant advertising under the auspices of "River Reports" isn't what this forum is about. Hopefully Ian will keep us posted on the Blackwater as a whole catchment from the fishermans' point of view. It's a big name River that I'd love to try, if only I could browse the odd current non-motivated report. Mr. Lock in T&S seems hardly impartial too.....

Some of the best fishing on the river is above Mallow, contact Kieran Bolster, Bridge View House, Mallow. Mobile 00353 879512327. I have fished there regularly and can thoroughly reccomend it. Very good April to end of July. Superb fly water.

Of the 802 fish caught on our beats on the Blackwater in 2007, 285 were taken on the fly & only 135 on shrimp. The percentage of fish taken on the fly was the highest ever recorded. You yourself took 2 on shrimp on August 4 this year on Lower Kilmurry so let's have a bit less hypocrisy!
