Thought i'd do the good thing and report back after my week slogging it out on the Tay. Our party had two springers 22 & 13lbs both sea liced and taken on the harled fly. Neither to me though I did catch a kelt of about 5lbs though so at least felt something pulling back even though it was short lived. The most dissapointing aspect was the rate at which the water dropped when we were there. The gillie's asure us that you need big water, even on the lower Tay, to pull fish up in more reasonable numbers. It really is amazing to here of the catches on the Upper Scone fishings in the 60's and 70's, weeks of 50 plus springers were more the norm, and occasionaly in early March they topped 100 for the week. One amuzing story the gillie told us was that a rod came up for the day and left at lunch time with 6 fish declaring the fishing affered no challenge. Hopefully it will start to come back a bit more one day.... One more thing: The most bizarre fish ever caught harling was a flounder!

Andrew its a pity that you didn't get a springer but its always good fun going fishing for a week with a group of friends.Bet your mate that got the 22lb fish is happy as a pig in sh1t. I am off to the Dee (Lower Blackhall) in 3 weeks with a group of 4 friends, never fished the beat before but looking forward to it. I will be rod sharing for the week as i was a bit skint when it was booked but don't mind sharing at this time of year as it stops the cold setting in. Did you catch the flounder on this trip or a previous one?? I have herd of them being caught on spinner and worm but never fly before.

It was still a very enjoyable week away fish or no fish. I'll catch up with them at some point during the season. The flounder was caught several years ago.
Good look on the Dee sure there will be a good chance then if the conditions are kind, looking forward to my week in May up there too.
