Just heard that a 41.5lb sealiced cock fish was taken on the Teith yesterday at Lanrick weir pool by Jamie McCaig. Will endeavour to post photo that was sent to me.

there must be a story to be told with that fish. What was it caught on. How long did it take to land? Well done Andy

What a fish!!!
I used to fish the Teith a few years ago, but never contacted anything like that. However, being part of the Forth system, big fish are always a realistic possibility, and there is some really nice fly water on the river.
Well done to Jamie.

I don't know.......something just doesn't look right........ Now you mention it, there seems to be a big flap of skin sticking up, on top in front of the tail - a seal bite?

What......... caught by a Scotsman ?
Sorry, couldn't resist that ;D
And yes Elwyman, that could be a seal bite.... as you know injured fish for some reason are often the best takers.

I believe that it may have been chapped hence the accurate weight but that's not confirmed .

It looks like there is a blue cord wrapped around its tail, so I presume it was taken..

tynetraveller I also spotted the bailing twine but I'd have to admit, it would be a bigger man than me to put it back. In actual fact, the fish was probably buggered by the time it was landed. I used to fish the Teith regularly back in the 80's and while it always had the reputation of having a run of big spring fish you'd have to catch it right to have a decent chance. It generally had to have some extra water in it which ran off quick so for every fish we caught, we put a lot of hours in to get them. That fish is huge. My personal best also came off the Teith upstream in the Torrie pool, Cambusmore Beat 2 if I remember right, 23lbs caught on a wet and windy April day. We took a picture of it on my mate's old Ford Fiesta and the fish was as wide as the windscreen!
There were four of us who went through together more often than not, fishing for trout. You used to get a great hatch of iron blue duns on a favourable day and there were some cracking brownies around. It was great but its a devil of a river to wade so many a dookin' was had. Being the bunch of rogues that we were, when out of sight the odd mepps found its way into the water. Ever tried playing a 14lb spring salmon with a spinning reel mounted on a 9' fibreglass rod? What a laugh. Well done Jamie, I hope you and many others enjoyed the fish. Ye'll be sick o' the sight o' salmon soon. lol

Is that the weir at Deanston Mill in the backgroung?

The weir at Deanston is no more than a rumble of stones now, the Landrick water lies above Deanston, never fished it but it looks like that there is some sort of weir there.
What a fantastic fish!
