Hello Jock, good to hear from you. Shame about Brockelrigg and the disadvantage day rods have there, it's a real p!sser for guys who are travelling a distance and then find that they haven't got what they expected. If you've been on St Mungos for the last 20 years you'll know it far better than me - so you'll definitely know that I'm wasting my time tomorrow! After a gloriously sunny but fishless day on Delvine yesterday with the big rod, I'm looking forward to trying my luck with the single hander looking for the scarce early running sea trout. Mind you, there's always the chance of a big brownie if the March Browns come out. The Deveron, now that's a river I've always fancied having a look at...... BC

Interesting day at St Mungo. Very low water and a hell of a downstream wind all day and then bright sunshine from around 1pm. Had a half hearted look for a sea trout and did see one which cartwheeled in front of me in one of the few fishable bits of water. A cracker of a fish, brilliant silver and white and shaped like a rugby ball, but was not interested in anything i put over it. Also saw a large spash in one of the slower pools - might have been a big brownie or even a kelt as I hear a few are still getting caught. After several miniature grayling and 1/2lb brownies I got a hold of a strong fish in one of the beat's best salmon lies and guess what..........big brownie that gave me the run-around. Beautiful fish of around 4lbs on a wet greenwell. He's back in there so maybe he'll make it to 5lbs next time we meet up. BC

The brownies got going big time and I saw a couple of good grayling rise too. Pity about the salmon though....

The picture that quotes "8 SEATROUT TO 3LB AND 1 BROWN ONE EVENING 2003" makes me want to vomit If it moves, both Roger & his partner will shoot it as well! He has a very large chest freezer, full of dead salmon, ducks & deer no doubt.

Just a PILE of dead sea trout on a river like the Annan, given its current major collapse, is simply appauling. What are they trying to advertise?

Hello all. Had a day on St Mungos yesterday and saw a few fish moving through - bright little grilse. The water was running at around 9" and started to rise towards the end of the day. Fish had been caught below us at Hoddom earlier in the week when the water was bigger. Think I saw around 10 showing but didn't connect (apart from a big grayling) despite the conditions looking pretty good. Its still early days yet.....

Barkingcollie,
Good to here of some fish coming into the Annan.
Anybody else been out lately with any news? Whoever writes on fishannan seemed fairly upbeat about the numbers of fish coming in
"I have come back just in time as hordes of grilse seem to be pouring in whilst the water height remains high"

I was in Macmillans tackle shop in Dumfries this pm and heard similar tale on the Nith. This tale was from a ghillie so possibly credible

Must say, the water looked in good ply on Saturday and I was expecting to get a hold of something, given the number of fish moving. Seriously thinking about having a few hours tomorrow evening as long as the flood and pestilence we're due to get tonight and tomorrow isn't too severe. Wishful thinking or what ?

Yep, Hoddom certainly had it good and there were a good few fish caught up to the upper river too. After seeing that on Friday, I went down to St Mungos yesterday and got a cracking little sea liced fish of around 6lbs on a 1" Ally tube. Was on the water for 7:15am as I thought it would colour up pretty quickly. It rose steadily through the day but stayed pretty clear. Saw a reasonable number of fish moving through and got one other strong pull that didn't hold. One of our rods fishes Hoddom and does very well off it so no surprise that he didn't show on St Mungos yesterday, had it to myself !

My spy at Hoddom reports another good day for the beat - he met a certain forum member who had caught 6 salmon - JTF is having an excellent season!
