Just returned from a few days on the Tummel at West Haugh & Dunfallandy Beat. Water on the low side but perfect for the fly. The fishing was hard going with what appears to be a below average stock for the third week of April. The water temp. reached 48/49F which means that you are looking and fishing for runners but they did not appear to be there in any numbers. I was lucky enough to land an 8pdr on Wednesday and a 9pdr on Thursday and lost another yesterday. Intermediate line & no 6 Allys. The other rods fared badly with only one other fish caught earlier in the week. The weather tells us that this season is late. Let's hope that the main run on the Tummel has still to arrive. Maybe the cycle of runs is swinging back to the period when the Tummel fished its socks off in May/June. Certainly last season the Tummel fished well into June with a run of big fish in the first week of that month.
