Frank at Turriff Tackle is the man in the know, with his River Information on his website being updated regularly. What I can say is that we are certainly in need of a drop of water on the Deveron. Montcoffer, being a beat on the lower river, should benefit from the low water with fish beginning to stack up. Stack up? Sounds like there must be loads!! One or two fish are still coming off the river, but it is tricky to say the least. There are a few seatrout about now as well, as I managed one this morning.

Gavin- Montcoffer:-
There were a few fish off early part of last week. The Gillie had 3 salmon to 14 lb and a sea-trout in one hour last Tuesday.
Basically you need to pray that the hot weather lasts and the river remains low. The salmon come through the gorge ( 40 ft deep) and stack up in the glide pool as it shallows up to around a foot deep at its head. Sea-trout will come through at any height but if it is too high the fish will go up past at speed off the tide. There have not been a lot of anglers on this month so far and only two this week. The previous owner used to keep some June dates for himself to fish for the sea-trout so these are the weeks that are available this year.
I have some special weighted "devil's spawn" in the shop to fish the gorge with. Local knowledge and secret weapons should see your friends catch a fish or three.

Frank If the Devil's Spawn does not work visit Seaway in Macduff and ask for a net!!! We cannot have you going home without a box full of salmon.
