Out of the 3 courses Ballater is the better IMO, however the way the fishing has been lately you should get the chance to play all 3 and you might even manage to squeeze in a round at Inchmarlo

Before you shame us all by taking to the fairway , take at look at FishDee and you'll see availability at Abergeldie and Balmoral in the next couple of weeks. There will be fish to be caught there for sure. Why not take an odd rod between your party for variety? And all the beats will start fishing again as soon as the weather changes - which it will .... eventually.

I have played Ballater many times, & if you get a lovely sunny day, there is not a nicer place anywhere

Now this is getting ridiculous - where are the moderators? The forum has been taken over by the radical wing of the Pringle Wearers' Association of Troon.
PWATs the lot of them in my view!!
Save our forum! Back to fishing!

Barking Collie and I fished Crathie today (and met Woburn who had been up for the whole week ) .4" on the gauge and the water is crystal. Managed a fish a piece, not bad under the conditions. Best fish a nice 12ber for BC caught under the Old Brig o Dee - Perfect ;D PS- Toucan, you are right, its well worth a punt on UD at present, however, no bufties on the opposite bank today

Not too bad Kenny. Mine was a wee bit coloured and all had been in a couple of weeks but Paul's 12lber was a very nice fish. We fished hard in the afternoon because there was a bit of cloud cover to keep giving you that wee bit off hope. Off to the Tweed on Monday (Horncliffe) so lets hope the low water concditions prevail for a day or two yet

Hey, great to hear you got a hold of one Alan, well done. I fished on in the pool under the old bridge for about 1/2 hour and then headed off but the weather looked like it was getting better for you. Liked this beat a lot and three fish on a pretty difficult day with low water is not a bad result - plus a couple of other offers. I'll try to get back on later in the year, even during their "off period", just to have another look at it. I'd like to see what Colliedog could do up there with his Czech nymphs. Thanks for suggesting the beat.

Well done lads. I'm particularly pleased you got a fish BC after you hard work went unrewarded at K&B last week!

One fish and Crathie has me in a Sven-like grip - I now have one of the very few remaining available days - Saturday 25th August and if all else fails I'll be able to touch up the sun tan.

Crathie 30th April - 5th May Phew what a scorcher! Bright blue skies and temperatures in the twenties for the first 5 days made things difficult, particularly in the afternoons. The water was at 6in, with conditions more like July than the end of April. The drill was get there early, fish hard till the sun went upstream, retire to the hut for a leisurely lunch followed by a nap, shopping, golf etc in the afternoon, then back out at 6.30 to fish through till dark. Bit of a contrast with my week last year when it was thermals, woolly hat and 3 inch Waddingtons. Despite the conditions had a great week. Archie was on top form, there were plenty of fish in the pools to keep things interesting, and the craic in the Coilacriech in the evening was brilliant. (It's on the main road between Ballater and Crathie, drop in if you are passing, Ive not been in another pub like it.) Had two fish for the week, both standard Dee 9lbers, one from Suspension on Tuesday, the other from Garlum on Saturday, and lost another three (two in Boat Runs, one in McLaren). One just fell off, two through varying degrees of Muppetry on my part. (I won't bore you with the details). There were 12 for the beat for the week which considering the weather was very respectable. Weapon of Choice seemed to be a 3 inch Collie Dog pulled fast, then followed up with low water doubles in 10s and 12s. Good to meet Splash and Barking Collie and Snr BC on Saturday, and to hear they both had fish. Agree with BC, it's a special place to fish. The beat is 5 miles long and there is so much variation, from biggish pools to fast rocky runs and little pots. You can be speycasting 30 yds one minute, then creeping up behind a rock and dibbling a fly over a fish you can see 20 feet away the next. The scenery is spectacular and Archie really knows his beat and will sometimes even tell you stuff (when he's not taking the p**s out of my casting, knot tying, wading etc) All in all a top week. Only 51 weeks to go................ Will post photos as soon as I can get them onto photobucket. Sam

The variety in the beat is unbelievable and I think its worth taking a few set ups with you, especially if you have more than a couple of days. BC was with Archie when he caught his fish so got some good photos. cheers Splash

Greetings Knights of the Rod & Line I have a rod available on Saturday 26 May at Kincardine, Borrowston & Sluie combined. As the retiring rod in question is leaving on the Friday lunchtime, I am throwing in the Friday afternoon and evening session free. As we have K,B&S we have 8 rods, but are only fuishiein' 6 to hedge against overcrowding in low water So in the true spirit of Bank Holiday Monday here, in a Tommy Vance voiceover stylee, is an offer worthy of MFI - 5 sessions for the price of 3. Normally, on what is normally the second best week of the season we might be expected to enjoy dangling in a wide variety of water to enjoy this type of experience: Especially when one of these is the end result of the tussle (17lbs sea liced on a size 14 flee): Oh, and you will get to fish here - The Greenbanks - One of the Dee's truly legendary (an over used word, but not of here) pools - here we see it after 'Ali G's glasses' has been for a successful late evening tryst So, if you would like to go send me a PM. Regardeth CLaG
