I see Park has registered the first fish on the Fishdee website.
Come on Kenny, You'll need to let us know which bank drew first blood and was it 1up for the southbank or does the honours go to Keith on the North bank.
As you are one beat I guess you will share the bottle of whisky

the shots on the news at lunchtime looked like a kelt being slipped back - near enough a fish to fool the average viewer i guess

Plenty of fish being caught at Park today. I was there for 2 hours at the opening and saw at least 10 fish caught and released, all kelts, but a couple of springers had been taken elsewhere on Parks waters by lunchtime. As the majority of the guests arrived there was a double hook up, with fish being played on both banks! Lower down at Maryculter (opposite lower drum), where i normally fish there were also fish in evidence, with one angler loosing 2 in quick succession, not too bad as there was only one angler fishing and he was only there for a couple of hours. A drop of perhaps 6 inches would suit Maryculter very well!

I know of 4 kelts being taken from Kingcausie. All were very silver and well-mended. Although the water was high, it was clear enough and fishing well. 3 of the fish were on fly; the other was on a floating yellowbelly (2 1/2")
One piece of disturbing news was an "angler" fishing upstream of the Bridge who caught and dispatched a fish of about 4lb. The chap who witnessed the event from a fair distance away felt the chances were that the fish was a well-mended kelt. Not good on either count.

Sloggi,
I didn't realise that the beat above the Maryculter bridge was fished. Of all the years I've driven over the bride I have not seen a sole above the bridge, plently fishing below the bridge mind.

Say,
My understanding is that it's very lightly fished. Personally, I've never seen a soul there before either. Good to see Kingcausie is going to be 100% C&R

Sloggi,
Kincausie 100% C&R, I'm sure that will upset one or two. However it is good news and will help with the application for extending the season.

Will upset the ghillie!
I'm a season ticket holder there and I'm really pleased as are the two guys I fish with.
I can fish from Feb - Aug wihtout seeing another angler, then half of the country's anglers descend in Sept and flog the place.

Can you please clarify this
Thank you.

No, it's 100% C&R all season. The ticket has also gone up by £50. Anyone caught with a fish will be fined (not sure how they'll enforce that) and not allowed back. Inaccurate reporting and ensuing bad press has not helped - hopefully someone will sack Polmomier soon

I did that a few years back and never received a response. Now, I'm not too concerned - she is entitled to her views - just a bit disappointed with her representing the whole river in her reports. in T&S.

Jim,
What was the news from Balogie - the river seems quiet, something to do with the cold?
Sure you had a good time though.

Jim, What was the news from Balogie - the river seems quiet, something to do with the cold? Sure you had a good time though. Had a great time but kelts only. Water temp went from 42F last week to 35F this week. The hard frosts are shrinking the river fast but I think it was the dramatic drop in temps. which killed it. Never mind - I had great fun trying out a prototype rod and a new line . The craic with the lads was also fantastic.. roll on the next trip !

My fishing companion had 2 springers yesterday in half an hour, first time he had fished the Dee, 2 fish and a kelt, the only operson I know who has a 2:1 record of springers to kelts.

Malcolm, Your mate was either very lucky or very good (I suspect both) to catch 40% of the Dee's reported catch for the day. What was his recipe for success apart from being in the right place(s)?

The head gillie from Delfur knows what to do and I showed him where to go. What a generous host I am.
