Col Very well done on your catches, folk who catch regularly are always those who deserve it, simple as. Would you consider a Whiteadder thread on or alongside the Tweed thread? I, for one, would love it.

Tend to agree with Billy here. Tweed, on a reasonable day will give a reasonably skilled fisher catches that you'd be incredibly lucky to get on the Whiteadder. The water this year has suited the smaller tributary, but it's still a great little river, and I'd love to see more reported about it. It's never spelt out, but even a sub-£80 Tweed beat can easily give you half a dozen fish a day, if you know where and when to look!

I met up with Col last Wednesday. The plan was to fish one of the lower Tweed beats. However, as I walked the dog by the river at about 7 am, it was clear that the Tweed was on the rise and mucky. A quick phone call to Col, and plan B began to take shape... The Whity was worth a look. Unfortunately, as a treat, I was staying in my favorite bed and breakfast (instead of in the back of my ex baker's van). The beds are comfy, and the breakfast to die for. The one unwritten rule of the guest house is that breakfast MUST be respected. Hence I had to delay my arrival at the Whity until about 9am. When I met Col he was virtually dancing, 'come on man, there's fish about and some one's just gone into the run I wanted you to fish!' Col had already formed a plan (and had been to buy my guest ticket - thanks!) and was champin at the bit. Before I had finished tackling up, there was a shout from the river, as the other angler (another tutee of col's) was into a fish. Col disappeared to lend a hand. When I made it down to the run (featured in col's photos above), both Col and the other lucky angler were kind enough to step aside and allow me to have a cast. Ten minutes later I was lucky enough to take a fish on one of Col's Junction shrimp tubes. This is my first Whiteadder fish of this season, and this is the longest I've had to wait for one, I could have kissed the wee fella. I'm just glad that I can finally post under the 'At Last' topic! After the fish had been returned, we fished further down the river, covering a number of likely looking runs to no avail, before returning again to the 'lucky run'. Unfortunately, it was at this point that Col realised he had lost his camera Much searching ensued, but with no success, and I do think that (despite the brave face) it some what ruined Col's day. Thankfully the camera was handed in to the police the following day by an honest and anonymous angler (presumably!). On fishing the 'lucky run' in the afternoon, I connected briefly with another two fish, and also had another couple of takes. However, as the day went on the river continued to rise slightly and by tea time it was pretty coloured. Thanks to Col for a good days fishing. The man was a gent, insisting that I fish the likely spots first. I'm looking forward to returning the favour soon on a different stretch of a different river - that's if it ever stops raining! Thanks again to Col for the day's fishing, even if our roles were reversed from what I had planned! Thanks also to whoever handed in Col's camera, I know it's loss would have ruined his week, and the evidence of my only Whiteadder fish this year would have been lost forever! Cheers F PS Don't be lulled into a false sense of security by Col's apparent lack of recent success. It is just that he has stopped posting his fish on here so that us mere mortals don't turn ourselves green with envy! Tight lines F

Well done both!
After two fruitless days on the Nith celebrating a significant birthday covering countless running fish, I finally managed my first 2 of the season back home on the Whitty today.
Water was perfect, 1' 9" and clearing and our arrival coincided with a run of fish going through. Got first about 10 minutes after starting, a bright little grilse somewhere between 3-4 lbs. Unfortunately had to be taken as was hooked badly through mouth/eye and wouldn't revive. Second fish was an absolute bar of chrome/blue straight of the tide and about 7-8 lbs. A real lively fish and probably the nicest looking salmon i've taken.
Both on an intermediate tip with size 10 dressed treble of own design.
Unfortunately no photos.
