I was on non fishing duties Sunday but did walk the Lyn between Lynmouth and Watersmeet. It was running at a perfect height and colour but no rods out. By late afternoon it was getting a bit big and dirty, no doubt by the time I get back there with a rod it will have run away to nothing.
Tight lines

Was out very briefly today on the lower Exe. Very high and coloured, never the less I intended to cast a line whatever and did just about manage it despite my new reel not fitting the reel seat of my rod!! I gave up when I realised the visibility through the water was less than 2 inches. There's always next week.

By late afternoon it was getting a bit big and dirty, no doubt by the time I get back there with a rod it will have run away to nothing. I could not have been more wrong, went back yesterday and it was bigger than ever but clean. Fly fishing was out and only a couple of the bigger pools were spinable, the rest of the river was a mass of white water. Got one about 8lb (my earliest ever) on copper mepps and helped land another from the same lie on rapala. Neither fish was sealiced so they must have been held back by the heavy/cold water as they were less that a mile from the sea. I'll put some pics of the river in the photo section, too busy putting the fish back to get a picture of it, hopefully there will be another! Tight lines Andy

Perfect day on the Mole today, cloudy, mild, 0.65 on the gauge, clear water at 48F and my first fish of the season, pictured here about to swim off. It measured 31" and took a 1.25" Willie Gunn Waddington on a sinking line. I didn't notice any sea lice, but then again I had my hands full as my net broke(again....) and it made off into the pool below. One of the other [poor] photos that I have since studied might show one just ahead of my hand....... ?

Gave the Taw about 6 hours today - saw nothing except an otter feasting on the smolts, although a few more trout were rising and some fly were hatching when the (cold) wind dropped.

I tried the Lyn again on Good Friday but saw nothing which was disappointing given the good water and spring tides. On a brighter note I heard of a couple of fish on the Exe up at Exebridge. This is only a couple of miles below "my" fishing and the only thing holding them back now is a sodding great weir. I expect the next spate will be on the 1st of October Tight lines Andy

As luck would have it I find myself in North Devon next Friday, just a stones throw from the Taw. I have fished the main river several times but not the Mole. Can anyone point me in the direction of a day ticket?

If not I'll try the Rising Sun- if it still has water to let.

Exe, Stoke Canon 24/04/06 A beautiful fishless spring day. The water has all but dropped away..........roll on the first spate of autumn!

Exe, Stoke Cannon 08/05/06. Bridge Pool Good overhead conditions and reasonable water after overnight rain. Confidence high (rubbed off from Andy's success yesterday) I was soon into some action. A good pull in the Bridge pool was followed by a lively 11/2lb trout (released) that devoured a Katy D. No salmon landed but things are starting to look up. I no longer feel desperate. It's only a matter of time...............

Exe, Stoke Canon, 15th May
Overcast, drizzle, light breeze. Water dropped 6 inches or so from last week.
I saw a fish! Nothing like it to get you fishing is there? Covered the water with everything, to no avail.
Hard fighting browns to 1lb again some substitute to the real thing.
Rain, please.

Keep at them Rob, my spies report that there are fish splashing about in Exeter and down on the tidal water.

Very windy! lots of sun and no rain. Our party of three rods had four fish (1 for me) with one lost and a few pulls. Saw plenty of fish but conditions against us, next year...

Alas no, I had to take my car in for a service (to Exeter) and didn't find time. Went to the Mill on the Exe to observe the raging torrent coming through the City and then went home.

Well I cant believe I'm writing this but we don't want anymore rain just yet. The Exe is only just getting back to a fishable level and colour after a week of downpours. I got a fish of about 9lb spinning a middle Exe beat this evening and I'm hopeful of getting one on fly this week.
Any news from the Dart or Teign anyone?
