Thats the one Rob, I got the fish in the run below Washfield weir. We were advised by the owner to concentrate on the 200yards of slack water above Bolham weir, I gave it ten casts before I started to nod off...
Another fish was taken by a DAA member today at Cove on fly.

Looks like my chances of a Devon springer (by any definition of springer) have gone for this year. Chickenpox. All three of the blighters.

Looks like my chances of a Devon springer (by any definition of springer) have gone for this year. Chickenpox. All three of the blighters. Just when you think it cant get any worse, all three of our springers get chickenpox Anyway I'm not sure if this will cheer you up Rob but I've had my best spring ever. One from Scotland and nine from Devon rivers. To put this into perspective my average is only seven fish per season. Admittedly I have been lucky and been in the right place at the right time more often than usual but it does show that the fish have been there. Just a pity I cant seem to take this luck to the Frome. A wet July please. Andy

At least somebody is enjoying themselves on the Exe. This is the gauge webcam at Thorverton. At first sight I thought they were hunting grockles with hounds.... Rain due on Thursday apparently, after the heatwave??? Hope so. Have you done your raindance recently, Exerod?

My dancing days are over as I still haven't recovered from the "non specific virus" (it needed a doctor to tell me that? non specific : that I picked up in the Hebrides. Yours in doom and gloom mode. So with confidence levels restored to a 3 year high after last weeks fish (Dorset frome- Flying C!!!) I set off full of hope to the Exe........well, not quite. No 1 son and I spent the afternoon playing crazy golf at Goodrington Sands. You see, South Devon has many delights.....

Over night rain has put the Exe up 1 inch. This is the second 1 inch rise we have had since May! It will probably drop 2 inches tomorrow Unless we get a proper spate before the end of the August to get things going this season is going to be another right off, especially in the upper reaches. Doom and gloom! Andy

At last some "proper" rain last night. Another inch or two should encourage them over the Exeter weirs to Stoke Canon and my holding pool. Well here's hoping anyway

The forecast rain has yet again mostly missed the southwest. This time to rub salt into the wound as well as running north over Wales some rain went to the south along the English Channel coast, leaving the Exe catchment in a dry patch in the middle. It looks like a bit fell on Dartmoor so maybe rivers further west might see a bit of action. With no real rain forecast for the next week or so I've abandoned all hope of getting another Exe fish this season. The rivers that stay open until mid October may get a bit of sport yet but I'm now looking to Cornwall and the winter salmon.

Not sure how much I believe that rainfall radar on the met office website. It's been raining heavily in sunny Torquay all day, but not according to the radar!
