Does anyone on here fish the Taw? I know of someone who fishes the middle river regularly and he had a couple of cracking springers at the weekend. I gather they were being pulled out left, right and centre.

I heard the same about the Taw, ~10 fish, including one of ~21lb. I wasn't fishing then due to other commitments , I hope to get there later this week and show them some tempting flies....

Sorry, I'm a bit late in mentioning this but I have a spare rod to fish the Exe at Bolham this coming saturday and sunday. Anyone interested can PM me. For a view of the beat this time last year: salmosalar.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=englishrivers&action=display&thread=1137844399Its all for a good cause, I bid for the fishing on the AST auction. Cost to you- a pint You might not want to cancel your day on Park or Delfur, but some nice fly water. Last year Exerod caught a grayling on a tube fly.

Just to tempt you further, I heard today that the water is "perfect" and " a fish was lost on the lower beat last week".

No takers I've driven to the Annan and back in day for one blank this season, Devon is a step too far, even for me! ;D

Yer, but John, the Annan is a late river. There's a few springers - Macsalmo had one last year, but yes mainly an autumn river now.

Good luck anyway Rob, and let us know how you get on.
I think I'll do a spot of trout fishing this weekend, after I've cut the lawns.

Nothing doing unfortunately. Out tomorrow on the upper beat. The weather was a bit too nice today- very sunny from 9 am to 3 pm when I called it a day.
Roll on the Spey in April!
Still one rod going begging.

In the end I took my son out fishing. Grabbed a bargain at the Exeter angling centre- lovely little Royalty spinning rod and shimano reel for cheap.
After an hour or two he was reaching the other bank and reeling quickly enough to avoid snagging on the bottom. He blanked, but thoroughly enjoyed himself. I think the mackerel on Torquay sea front beckon!
The banks on the upper beat at Bolham need clearing.

The Exe has fallen about 20cm since March 24th. Must be the same everywhere else. Any catches on the Taw or Torridge since March?

No water. No news. The weather has settled into the usual summer pattern already, any forecast rain (or even cloud) slips away to the north.
Enjoy your trout fishing!

Hi Guys
You seem like West Country experts and might be able to answer a query.
Last year I stayed in Calstock for a week overlooking the river. At high tide the water was quite coloured but I could see what appeared to be dorsal fins of fish swimming slowly and very close to the top of the water.
Any idea what they were?
