The gauge seems to be up and down more than the rainfall would dictate. Have they been letting water out of Wimbleball for some reason, or am I just imagining it?? No not a Wimbleball release. Just heavy drizzle all night on the moor. Its wierd stuff, hardly gets you wet but makes the river rise and colour, not much fun when you've got up at 4am to get to the river early Rob try L. Nicholsons they can give you a ticket on what was the top beat of the old Carnarvon arms water (about 1 mile of the Barle just below Dulverton). There has been enough water to get them up there! It is good fly water unlike Bolham which as you say is a bit dull! Andy

Thanks for that Andy, will bear it in mind. Unfortunately some bugger has booked me a clinic monday morning so I'll have to stay closer to home!

Quiet on here isn't it. I see a few fish have come off the Exe north of Dulverton, have you tried the Barle recently Andy? Teign seems quiet, bit of action on the Dart still. Lets hope we get some more proper rain this weekend. Come what may, I'll have my sea trout rod out; its half term, I've a week off- play with the kids by day, and the sea trout at night. I'll need a holiday! If anyone cares to join me I have a spare rod on the Dart.

FWIW I hear the Taw is doing OK and the Torridge was still a bit big last Monday. I'm sure there will be fish right through the Exe system now but i haven't been out for over a week other than for the trout, I think i need to sort my priorities out Exe rising now, this could be the week, back to summer level by June 16th ;D Andy

Had a few hours out on the Teign last night. Nothing doing on the salmon front, mind you the water was calling out for a mepps which I left at home ;D. Second cast after dark I caught a nice sea trout, 2 1/2lb or so. Best thing about it? The first fish I've caught with my own hand tied fly. A 1" black aluminum tube doing the business.

Blanked the night before last on the Teign when all around me where scoring. Personally I'd like more rain, the real sea trout officianado's (?sp) think the river is still a little on the high side.

Rob, I am off down to stay with the in-laws in Torquay one weekend soon. Is there any decent day ticket sea trout fishing on the Teign? I've fished the Staverton water on the Dart but found it tricky for someone unfamiliar with the river and was hoping the Teign might be better suited!

Well it's all been a bit of a struggle down here on the Exe. The last proper spate was at the end of May, since when the Exe catchment has again missed nearly all the rain. The web cam on the lower river was showing a rise of about 8" last night but it all seems to have come from middle river tribs. When I got to the upper river at 6am this morning it was only just above summer level. It hardly looked worth fishing but a few daft ones had struggled up and two of them went for a size 10 Allys, both about 7lb and coloured (returned) Another good spate now could make it interesting but I fear it's all going to fizzle out now, although I expect the lower river rods should be happy for a week or so... maybe you should have kept your Stoke Cannon rod Rob Andy

Well done Andy, mad those Barle salmon. I've no regrets giving up the Stoke Canon rod, I'm really getting into the Teign now and the odd day on the Dart. I much prefer the ability to go when the mood takes rather than just on a monday!

Well done Andy, mad those Barle salmon. They are when you hook 'em! Talking of the Dart any news of catches? I'm wondering about heading up to the Duchy water on Dartmoor, if fish are up the Exe onto Exmoor they must be well up the Dart also Andy

Not sure about the higher reaches I'm afraid, a few salmon being caught lower down though. www.dartaa.org.uk/

The rain may have missed the upper Exe catchment, but it certainly fell on the Teign. Bank high and the colour of chocolate sauce today.

Fished the Teign on wednesday, but no luck. The river had fallen to a nice peaty height after the weekends chocolate sauce. Didn't see or touch any salmon, and after dark the sea trout where not playing. Bit unsettled I should think. Shame, because I was feeling lucky after reading Col's reports on the Whiteadder. I see the Exe is rising again.

Tried the Duchy water on the Dart yesterday, a first for me. It was a very enjoyable day but caught nothing. Every pool and run looked fishy to me. I did eventually irritate a coloured fish which flopped over the fly half-heartedly. It had started raining when I left.....

Shame you had no luck. It'll be a good bet up there over the next few days as well if the weather forecast is correct.
