I fished yesterday just below Corwen and the river was up and coloured I tried the double hander (Well you never know) then tried spinning and caught two 10" brown trout on a flying C ;D But no sign of Salmon. Heard from one fisherman that one had been caught nearer Corwen so they are coming up

After a quick spate a week ago, a few fish were reported but not many. Its going to be a later (or too late) run here on the Dee considering the season finishes in 36 days time (sob).
Hooked one on Saturday but after thump thump thump it bounced off (double sob)
And I pinged off a rod ring and tore my breathables climbing a barbed wire fence (why do I do these silly things?)

The 2006 season on the Dee seems to have been very poor.
Fished the middle river near Chirk today, and not even a sign of a fish.

Well blow me down with a (Welsh) feather - I managed to sneak a couple of hours off work this morning so I went fishing and caught a springer!! I was keen to try out my new Norway rod & Monteith line, so I went to our club beat at Chirk. Went down the pool first with the 10' intermediate tip - didn't feel I was getting deep enough so I switched to the 10' fast sink tip. Fly was a Cascade tied on a size 7 silver Salar hook. Second time down, near head of the pool, felt a solid take and a few minutes later I landed a 7- 8lb fish. I thought the fight had been strong for a kelt - it had kept going right until the end - but when I looked closely I realised it was a nice plump fresh fish, no sign of gill maggots. My first Welsh springer. Also my earliest ever salmon. The fish swam off strongly and I went down the pool again and landed a well mended big kelt (est 15lb when it entered river) followed by a 1lb grayling. I was tempted to give it another hour and get the sea trout and brownie as well!! A great morning, great to be on the river again and a totally unexpected bonus of a fresh fish.

Thanks chaps, it's always nice to christen a new rod and I was really pleased with the line - the tips turnover really well.
Thanks again for the good advice Graham.

Gentlemen of the Dee,
I had the following email from Steve Evans of the sea angling community that I thought may be of interest to you as it would seem that salmonoids in the the estuary may be affected by the proposals.
Regards.
Highplains
I know the reference to me being a Dee angler is incorrect, but that aside.
I suppose that you as the bona-fide 'sport fishermen' of the Dee have been made aware that the EAW are currently reviewing their byelaws. Various proposals have been put forward by the various 'consultees'; a lot of these proposals are from the trawlermen requesting that existing laws regarding allowed times, areas etc are relaxed.
Are you aware if the Salmon and Sea Trout fraternity have been asked to provide proposals (input) to this process?
Regards Steve
