Why not tie the fly on the treble.Try chrome hooks with different coloured hackles no body dressing it,has worked for me .

Here's a couple of flies I tied on size 18 trebles - just a wisp of squirrel tail and a slightly exaggerated head of fluorescent thread on a silver treble. I've not actually had an opportunity to use them, but saw fish caught using something similar in the very hot August of 2003 on the Moy. I think tiny trebles like these can take a surprisingly secure hold; they sink in to the bend so there is practically no leverage.

I am a big fan of micro tubes and tiny dressed trebles, but the micro tubes get the nod for a very good reason, usually the hook hold you get with these small hooks is very positive and can often result in a mashed treble to un-hook your fish, resulting in a ruined fly, with a micro tube and treble however your fly is unspoilt just change your treble.Just look at the way a similar fly dressed as a micro tube and a micro treble fish, the micro tube picks up all the subtleties of a reduced flow and gains more movement.Picked up some V.M.C. trebles at the Welsh game fair this weekend.9000BK in 12/14s, £5 for 30, fine wire round bend nice eye for the tail of the tube just what Salmo ordered. Only problem i found was that most fish almost swallowed the fly...so i fished barbless.

Hello, just wondering where those tiny size 18 silver micro-trebles are available? Looks like low water this summer and could be handy to have some micro-flies ready. any suggestions appreciated folks. Whitetrout

Hi Yorkshire Game Angling are selling bulk Trebles size 2 to 14 £12.50 for 250.
I landed 2 x 10lb Springers on the Spey last week (com.23rd April)on them and to be honest expected them to bend a bit under the strain, but they had no damage to them at all. Cracking hooks for the price.
Cheers Pudsey

i would advise against using to small of a hook if you are reurning the fish as they are a bugger to get out even when debarbed i use to use them for sewin on small tubes but i found i wasnt able to return the fish as it took to long to unhook them i dont go any smaller than 14 s now

I now prefer to use Partridge big mouth doubles in sizes 14, 16 and 18 for micro tubes and dressed flies - with excellent results. Don't be fooled by the sizes though - they are bigger than they sound. I reckon the 18 is the equivalent to more like a 14 or 16. CD
