I fished there Friday and Saturday and Saturday was definitely Peter's last day. He was unhappy at the way he was treated by the holding company and also generally with the working hours. There was a 17lber from Boat o Fiddich on Friday and I saw several springers in the pool on saturday morning, but none on the end of my line. A nice beat though.

John,
In this current world of Political Correctness where minority rules, it could be either, although don't know about you, but I'd personally prefer the former.
You'll see from page 1 of this thread that I suggested there may be a couple of new faces around this season. Lets hope the chap with the task of finding a suitable replacement is from the 'Old School' where dinosaurs rule !
Joking aside, I'm sure they will find suitable replacements for Peter and Hamish although they will no doubt be sadly missed by many loyal guests.

Unfortunately I have only just noticed this sad post. Peter and Hamish will be sorely missed by our party this year, they combined to make our 2 weeks so enjoyable that everyone was looking forward so much to renewing that aquaintance once again. Sad times.

1' 2" on the Aberlour gauge and no rain forecast for next week. With the warm weather, will it be worth trying a full floater and smaller flies?

Don't worry about the low water, the fish are still running through. We had 3 fish this week and lost another couple on floaters with slow sink poly leaders and size 6 flies. Water temp today 46 F.
It may have been a relatively slow start but things are beginning to happen in the mid -river, word is that the prime lower beats of Delfur, Rothes and Arndilly are all consistently catching, therefore you should be quite optimistic of your chances John.

Tight Lines Not sure about catcing consistently, today a year ago we had six at Delfur, this year I would be surprised if they had six for the week. Rothes this week a year ago had 27 this year I doubt they managed the 7. Yes things are picking up but like everywhere else there just aren't the numbers of fish.

Re the slow start/ lack of fish, a number of my friends have been reminding me that in Oct. and Nov. 2002 there were a number of major spates (like 18' on the guage) which must have had a disruptive effect on spawning. The fish counter on the Faskally Dam on the Tummel that year also showed one of its lowest counts so I am told ( have not had the chance to check that yet). NB the 18' on the guage does not refer to the Spey. Malcolm... you might remember if the Spey also suffered.

Yes Jim, i have heard similar things.
Apparently there were huge floods in April 2002 - just as the young fish will have hatched out and may well have been seriously damaged by the spates.

My glass is always half full Willie Gunn, lets say they are catching more consistently than last week then !
I'll be surprised if Elwyman doesn't get some excitement during his week, if he gets through the bank holiday traffic in one piece.

I'll be surprised if Elwyman doesn't get some excitement during his week, if he gets through the bank holiday traffic in one piece. Steve and I sailed up the M6, M74 etc in record time on Sunday, and fished Craigellachie on Monday to Wednesday. Unfortunately, the salmon had also bombed through the beat, and the rest must be enjoying the fine weather in Spey Bay. 8 rods fished hard, with only 1 salmon hooked and lost on the final day. I felt a tweak on the Monday, but I guess it was just a trout. Nice beat, but the water was on the low side and the salmon weren't in the mood to play. I'd like to fish some of the pools later in the season and in slightly higher water - Broom Isle, Champrach, Slabs, Bridge and Boat were all interesting pools to fish. The new gillie, Dougie from the Tulchan beat, started on the Monday and did his best to show us the beat. Nice chap, and he was impressed with my monteith line. We were very lucky that the strong breeze was blowing downstream and helped with the casting the right bank. As for excitement, well we did get to meet briefly the man himself, Willie Gunn. ;D Nice to meet you Malcom, and I hope the rain clouds head in your direction soon. PS For a slightly more exciting report (fish involved (!) I'll post a report on our 2 day trip to the Tummel - yes Malcom, it must be a 'real river' because it has salmon in it! salmosalar.proboards80.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=anglingreports&thread=1173464330&page=1

My Dad and I fished here on Friday and Saturday (morning) and it was tough going to say the least.
We saw a few fish in the boat pool very early on Saturday morning but as soon as the sun came up the fish went into hiding.
It's a nice beat and with another 12" water I'm sure we would have been picking up one or two.
One of the rods fished all week, without a touch. The ironic thing about it was he fished the same week last year on LC&WD and landed 10 in 3 days with his party taking over 50 for the week. This year he refused to pay the hike in the day rate, which looks to have been a wise move considering LC&WD only managed 1 fish for the week.
Doug has a tough job there looking after the 8 rods and I hope he gets some assistance soon, and a few inches on the gauge.
