Hail dudes, just got back and unloaded the horse and cart, red flag flying high so full floaters and a polytip to suit the stream coupled to the old faithful cascade.Sorry Lomond but queues were minimal due to the low water only Saturday and the holiday Monday meaning a bit of a wait.Took a while to tune in to things but finished up with 11 fresh sea liced fish all in top nick being brought to the bank, lost a few(lot really) and had a few missed contacts.Takes were unusually savage for the floater but plenty of fish didn't stick or dropped off until I sussed things out.Usually fish "off the reel" with a full line but after 8 missed opportunity's on the first Friday fished "clamped up" and only lost one out of 12 fish hooked there after, still missed the odd take but thats life eh. Now,egg on the face or what, bear in mind have only been fishing here for 17 years and I got it wrong. The red flag will fly when water is off the Rome Croy gauge, the Yellow flag will fly when water is between 0ft and 1ft, above that no restriction applies(numpty or what). One more thing, usually fish 12 to 15 lb cast on the floater but clamping up as I did and considering the savage nature of the takes switched to 23lb Seaguar. As I departed today (Sunday) it was raining steadily so I would expect things to change somewhat for Monday morning.Didn't want to leave as enjoyment levels were at a peak cant wait to get back to work,NOT!.Tight lines to you all, Pedro.

Well done rennie, I asked about the queues, because I fished there last Sept with fruin and we had to wait one and a half hours to get into each pool, which put me off going back.Fruin is planning another trip there, going by your report I think I will go back in the next couple of weeks if the weather stays dry.
Cheers
Lomond

Typical innit,I head for home and the water comes up and the "beasties "show up oh well.Don't despair salmonscotty16lb,which side are you thrashing on,if its the Muirtons you wont need to cast far on the back of the island or the bottom of the grain any fish running will be coming past quite close to you, only the top of the grain needs a good chuck(from both sides),any way both pools are easier than the woody to fish and less life threatening when the water comes up.Drop me a P.M. if you want any more info.Pedro.

In the interests of tact and diplomacy, the less said about this, the better - please?

Outing individuals in public might not be the best way forward here, especially as we seem to be talking about 2nd/3rd hand information. However what surely is legitimate is to discuss the “alleged” killing of far too many fish at the bottom end of the Tay system at this time of year. I don’t fish down there so I don’t have personal experience but I do have enough anecdotal evidence, from people I trust and respect, to suggest it is a serious issue on some beats. The Tay is having a poor season this year and it is incumbent on us all to show restraint and to bring whatever pressure we can “to stop this selfish nonsense” to protect the valuable resource we have. I was talking to a well-respected fish scientist today. He said, “They all think there are plenty of fish running the Tay system, there’s not!” When it all grinds to a halt, whom do we blame, the TDSFB, ourselves? Innes

How many fish do we actually think are returned on most beats on the Tay not enough I think. I would say that if 25% of fish were returned on the Tay that it would be an optimistic figure. This individual leaves himself open to this kind of flak because he preaches c+r in articles and probably makes money out of it as well.

Take a leaf out of the Dee's book boys & return your fish, killing 5 out of 7 is just pure greed. It's no wonder the Tay is having a poor season, you can only look forward to a few more if that sort of thing continues.

This is not a Court Room and you are not the Judge. These rumours are just that, rumours. The ramifications that this sort of gossip could have on this forum are serious but then you probably don't care. There are many who are proven speculators without having the facts before the start shouting off. Talk about fishing because when the crap hits the fan that is what you usually want to do. So if it was Joe soap,he'd be hung drawn and well who knows what, but because he's FAMOUS,or well known,,we will ignore the wrong doings,,,mmmmmm. not in the best interests of fishing,,,,,,SSSSSSH?
