Thanks Col for your edit - it opens a more debatable field, and in the current climate whilst I am of the opinion third hand info is not what should be relied wholly upon, your questions are justifiable.
By the same token, naming someone on third hand info is not right, nor being pointed to any one member of this forum as it is clearly against ProBoards rules.
I would suggest "someone" has caught 7 fish - killed 5 and returned two. Poor show in my opinion, lets move on gents, as no matter who this "someone" is - it will happen on any river at any time of year by any "someone". That's reality and whilst the majority would not advocate such actions, if founded, it will happen.
Result - perhaps that "someone" won't have the same week next year - whether famous or not, and it will be "his / her" own actions that determine that - not us on this forum.
Let us debate such issues - yes, but in so doing let's keep the spirit of this board and the ProBoards rules clear.
Thankyou gentlemen,
Altmor

I've never fished there but am building up to it (Muirtons rather than Rome Croy). Is it still worth fishing in October? Had a walk down a couple of weeks ago and decided I would do it once.

Donnie,
I like the Muirtons side as it offers more fly water. However, the Rome Croy has good car parking and is the easier side to fish the Grainhead and the Woody Hole IMO.
I park in the housing estate and walk in to the river whenever I fish off the Muirtons side.

Donnie you will empty the place don't do it ;D ha ha seriously its a good experience and one I'm really enjoying plenty of fresh fish but its busy and my felling is the resident fish become spooked easy (i might be wrong) (not often I'm right) so most of fish are liced, bright and strong. fruin is right RC is probably best side and essayer to fish but i think there is a waiting list of about 2 years. there is plenty of helpful regulars on here who know have forgot more than i know on this beat

I'm in the PDAA so shouldn't have to wait 2 years!! When I went for a look I preferred the Muirtons side although I wasn't hugely keen on either side. It seemed to be less busy (at least on weekdays). I would probably go home rather than wait in a queue but when I was there everyone could fish at the same time.

must admit i have never had to stand in line and wait my turn on murton side ;D maybe wait for someone to start before me but a ham roll and fly selection normally is enough time before you can fish down plus a brass neck helps sometimes ;D

I had a shot at Rome Croy today (on a PDAA ticket) - thoroughly enjoyed myself although didn't get a touch (a couple of guys did well). Sun set just as high tide approached and quite a few fish started moving - good crack as well although someone needs to install a fridge at the Woodie bench, a cold one would've been nice today!!!

I joined Muirtons this year so am learning the ropes as a rookie. I netted a cock salmon today for Jimmy at the Woody Hole which he decided to put back as he thought it was a bit coloured. Looked ok to me but the rod decides. This was the second fish I have seen put back on Muirtons all year. Ally, you know who, returned a fish on RC today as well. I have seen a lot of killing this year on both banks, particularly Rome Croy, but maybe I have missed many of those that were returned. Mike

I was coffee grinding the bottom of the beat in the morning and went up to fish fly in the afternoon. Jimmy's fish was about 6lb and gave him a good fight for its size. There were 7 rods in the woody so I fished back of island but there was nothing showing. My Fife mates said I should have been on Muirtons late on Saturday afternoon as there was a run of fish the likes of which they hadnt seen in a long time. They have capured a bit of it on their camera phones so I am looking forward to seeing it. Old guy walking his dog yesterday said the same...that there were hundreds of fish jumping everywhere! Usual story....you should have been here last week! Mike

yes lots of fish on the tide last Thursday to. i heard the "rainbow" fishers did well on Sunday agen the bailiffs did nothing. i heard the other week that bailiffs stood on rc side and watched them and when one landed a salmon he stuck two fingers up chapped the fish and ran.

Hairyscotsman, certainly is worth the effort fishing for Grayling on The Stormont beats. When you re-new your permit ask for your membership card sending back as you wish to Grayling fish, bear in mind you will have access to all the clubs water and I believe the rest of the estates water too.Pedro.
