SS
it was very popular on the Kingshawgreen beat of the Tyne some years ago and easily observed from a tree on the Acomb side by a contributor to this forum in his official capacity with his night sights.
The advantage is that it just looks like kids have been playing with the rocks in the thin water the following day, especially where there is a public footpath alongside the river.
Seen it done on a thin run very successfully on the middle Wear with old front doors on a gloomy October dusk-the fish come firing up the beach like hovercrafts out of the water. It is even more effective if the night is very windy as it tends to knock fish off their usual running lines.
Spectacular fun to watch and amazingly effective although quite how you explain away carrying three doors across open fields to the EA's finest is open to considerable conjecture.
Seemed to get missed from Tales of the Old Poachers just to keep this remotely relevant and save a bollocking from the keeper of the thread.

Why not just do it on Wikipedia. Then it will be imortalised forever, and there is a hope of additional postings from experts outside the forum.
It also means nobody need put effort into setting up the logistics.

sorry for the interuption guys but i had to sit back and listen to this for a while... I am not a very good fisherman and although i do try and get much enjoyment out of trying a book is a good idea. But after reading through the forum for many months and listening to what people have been saying i personally think i am getting a bit better.. Willie gunn i assume is a ghillie as are other members on here and i take what they say as good practice.. If anyone should write a book it should be a combined effort by anglers on this forum why do you need a famous name on it. I think i read somewhere that hugh falkus first book was nearly never published, after getting the first one out of the way now hes a god(to a certain degree) in the fishing and writing industry... Also as i own my own printing company, (I must tell you that i have never published a book, but i would print and bind ready for someone with the connections to get into the shops.) but would like to offer my services for members with something interesting and informative to contribute...Ps i dont need the extra work so im not trying to make a quick buck here, just trying to help..

Plotter,
It is interesting what you say about publishing. I think that nowadays with so many self publishing programmes and DVD editing programmes it must be relatively straight forward to produce a low budget booklet and DVD combo. A booklet rather than a book.
As far as people working together is concerned, I believe a book or even a DVD is a personal thing and that the person compiling it should make the choice of contributors, if they want any, based of course on whom they think has something interesting to say. As we sometimes say, For God so loved the world that he didn't send a committee.
When, rather than if, I am publishing something I do wish to involve some other casters and ghillies. The one person, whose project it is must have complete control.
