I'd guess that fush was somewhere in the region of large, bordering on spare underpants . Good job they have boats. You thinking of going scotty? Book us a ticket.

Strange markings on the flank of that fish, or is it a trick of the light?

Strange markings on the flank of that fish, or is it a trick of the light? Those strange markings are the banded discolouration of the dead fish having been laid on the boards of the boat for an hour or three. Sad to see such magnificent MSW fish hanging by the gills , a better trophy photo may have been with the fisherman crouched bankside, in the water, on the point of release. Mike

Anyway walcome aboard the forum Speyducer, that is some fish right enough. I am quite familiar with that beat as it lies on an excellent walk from Twizel Bridge down Till side to Tillmouth then around by Twizell Castle. Unfortunately I have never fished there.

Its a cracking fish- I would give it high twenties, it is being held 'arms out' towards the camera which makes it look bigger than it is.

Here's a nice Sea Troot from Lakselva, Finnmark, caught in Aug 2005 weight uknown as of yet. Much bigger by the looks of it, anyone hazard a guess to the weight. I reckon 34lb or so ....

This fish was found to be a hen salmon (by DNA analysis), 19.8 kg, 120 cm, scale reading told the tale that she was on her third return to the river to spawn. Regards Jan

Blimin heck!. That salmon looks very much like a seatrout.....Unusually square tail, very heavily spotted. Is there any chance it could have been a hybrid? DAZ.

Hi
The short explanation from "NINA" the Norwegian institute for Nature research that performed the DNA analysis: DNA show that it was a salmon, it was quite old, smoltified as a 5+ and had 5-7 years in the sea. NINA speculate that the sea-trout likeness i.e tail fin and spots could be due to the old age of the fish (http://www.nina.no/?io=1001246).

Janne
