Just glad you did'nt say you had booked the 1st of the month ! Please bear in mind that you are are on the beat to catch salmon, NOT to be bloody enjoying yourself ! And no laughing out loud, if you don't mind,it wakes the people next door ! Seriously , I look forward to meeting up,I will attempt to get the previos days rods to leave a fish for you, failing that I will stock it early AM !

I fished Kercock again yesterday. Unfortunately I never caught anything but seen plenty of fish pushing through, but they didn't seem to be hanging around.
At the last, Dennis the ghillie suggested that as nobody was fishing the cottage stream, it would be worth a cast. This is excellent fly water, so I thought why not? I did get a pull, the reel went ZZRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, I lifted the rod and all went slack. After muttering a few profanities, I carried on but never touched anything else.
As usual it was a good day on the river with the patter as an added extra.

It just shows how fickle the salmon can be ! Last weeks total was thirteen for the week, this past week bugger all !. Kelts there were aplenty something around 16 or 17 kelts, previosly we had'nt had that many in a month ! We were seeing fish, heading north at a great rate of knots. The only noticeable difference being a Two,perhaps three degrees lift in temperature up to 40 F. This morning there was a three foot lift inthe river height. Who knows what it will be in the morning. this morning the air temperature was 8c at 8o'clock tonight it was 14c. I hope it's cold in them thar hills.!

Interesting to note that kelts have been present or not at all. I heard someone say recently that when they occupy the main lies they will be caught, but when fresh fish come through they displace the kelts, and hence anglers catch less of them.
Makes sense anyway.

Things have been very quiet of late,There is no shortage of fish but everything seems to be going like a rocket up through the middle Tay beats. We did get a 14ish sized fish today, one last friday but it has been a struggle.I was chatting to a Bailiff tonight and he was saying that the counter at Pitlochry Dam is now around double the number at the corresponding time of last year,so plenty in the Tummel no doubt.Ah well there is always tomorrow and a fresh attack,a new grin and off we go again !

Nothing I'm afraid Iain, several fish seen though but they seemed to be passing through although the water is down to four inches ! Still, tomorrow we will at least double that score !

The river was showing 1in,yesterday, The fly seems to only get plucks,One of ten pounds yesterday and two around 11pounds today. red floating devon taking one and the upstream salmo getting the other two,. It is certainly more encouraging for the guests because they are seeing more fish in this low water. the thing is that the fish are still running through in the very low water levels, I see Kinnaird had three yesterday and today ,they had a total of fourteen last weekyoung Martin is chuffed to bits. Jim is on the Gaula in Norway at the moment trying to catch the BIG one.

Considering the very low numbers of fish being caught on the T ay system we are doing brilliantly this week.We had a15lb sea liced fish yesterday, again on the ruby red floating devon. 29,well as the lady said, size does'nt matter, and as I said,a fish is a fish !

Gary ,There are fish showing in places I'd expect them to be if they are hanging around, but it's all been fresh stuff being caught,of course the residents encourage the runners to stop etc etc, one of the lads had a grilse yesterday right at the top of the cottage stream, plastered in sea-lice,

Looks like things might be starting to get a bit more consistent Kercock. I'm still waiting for the arrival of the third bairn, so I'll not be straying far. However, if things go to plan, I'll build up the brownie points and maybe get a couple of days booked up soon; hopefully at a bash at the grilse and a bit of sport at the backend.
Hope all is well.
Cheers,
Gary

The high tides of this week certainly helped things along, all grilse but some bigger stuff around for sure, fly sizes were from 8 trebles down to 14trebles all on broken water which you would expect mostly caught in" impossible" conditions ie low water and sahara type sun ! Roll on next week when rain is expected, allegedly.
