I cant wait to fish at kercock this friday (29th), I've heard such a lot about it on here and Dennis has been so helpful so I just need the fish to be equally obliging..
I am off to the Game Fair at Scone on the saturday so it'll be a great weekend for sure..
I'll bring my trout rod as well, its amazing how many nice fish I've hooked on the Spey, Tweed, Tay when the salmon arent around..
So will it be a klinkhammer or collie dog, toby or cascade who knows, I'll just bring it all..
Cant wait...

Just a quick report from last friday on my day at Kercock..
As I dont have syndicate membership or a weekly let, I fish a lot of d/t waters and I have not had a better experience all round than I had at Kercock.
The fishing hut was just like fishing huts should be, lots of tea/coffee/banter and was relaxed/chatty and supportive (this is crucial to duffers like me). Dennis and Gary were first class in their advice and generous with their time. This is like a model fishery in my book.
Regarding the fishing, well I am a great conservationist and I didnt trouble a fish all day despite covering some delicious lies and holding off from recasting too soon (as advised). Maybe the water was this or that, the fish running or not on, I dunno but the whole experience was one of fun, learning, good sportsmanship with plenty of room for exploration of different pools.
I will be returning for sure and I dont always say that..
Many thanks to Dennis and Gary - top geezers all round
- JJ

We had a small grilse yesterday, the first fish for a week ! Very hard going. When you see places on the Tay,like Islamouth having a struggle in July there is something not right somewhere. There are still sea trout around but they hold little interest for the salmon angler. Perhaps today will be the first day of plenty !

Sorry colliedog for not answering sooner,I did'nt see it,it went back. However we did have a grilse yesterday which was around three pounds and thin, vent intact and very fresh. The river is about three feet too high at present, certainly for us.few fish to be seen. The thing is though, today is a different day.

This past week the Orange flying C was the one to have spinning and the Cascade was the fly.Several of those wee totty fish with red vents to be seen also on the Tay beats, which as you can expect give some people visions of doom and gloom. The river heights this season have been absolute crap fish bombing through and a lot of the snags which came down river in Decembers floods are still in place,we have really not had low levels to get the buggers out. On the bright side there is always next week to look forward to !

Ahelp ma boab, forty fish already this week and its only Thursday. Despite an overnight lift in the water level and the river steadily rising during the day we still had seven. Now beginning to get a number of coloured fish, possibly coming on up with the fresh ones. However I never loose sight of the fact that Kercock is two beats Upper and Lower Kercock. A lot of fish returned too. one beat had 17 one day this week and killed the lot,the day before they had 6 , they had the same fate. No problem having the Fisheries Board Chairman as a boss there then ! Replies on a postcard please !!!

A truly great example of leadership Dennis. I've no doubt he'll have the bottle to give his usual annual pitch on the Tay's poor release rate at this years forthcoming AGM !

Yes, it is true we did catch fifteen yesterday. One group of three guys had nine in total(I think it was three each) One bloke had two and four others had one each. The biggest fish was a sea-liced beat of twelve pounds caught by a the only woman fishing for the week,on a fly fished floating devon style.. One fish landed on Friday and fifteen Saturday ! No understanding salmon is there?. One fish which was lost on friday is worthy of a mention. Lost at the net, because it was too big to go in it ! ..It wasn;t a small net either. They tried several times to get it netted then had a one off superb idea....................Lift it's head up and slide the net up from the tail.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, NO prizes for what happened next !! Looking after six people ,well you cannot be everywhere. Guestimated at thirty plus but we will never know,ah well.

Not a bad day then!! ;D Any idea what happened on Murthly2? All the fish I saw on Newtyle were coloured - did the beats below us catch all the fresh ones?

I reckon Murthly 2, Tony ,had not put his returns in for some time and lumped all his catches in on a" wonner",including the 32lb fish, difficult perhaps not to report a 32 lb fish ! We had one sea liced fish on Saturday several silver fish not sea liced . Of the fifteen caught five were kept the rest returned. Monday, as you would guess all was back to normal with two being landed. What has been noticable over the last few weeks is the number of big fish around the upper beat, hooked but not landed, it would have been interesting to have weighed the biggest one caught which I reported as being 28lb, that weight was the lowest estimate by those who saw it,still it's maybe better not to know !
